I believe the context of the conversation with Gabriel shows this to be an imminent happening, not something years into the future.
Here you allow yourself personal interpretation of the context, in place of the Church’s, which instead recognizes God’s work in gracing the ever virgin while dedicating her life to Himself as mother of the savior. This was her vocation, along with Joseph, foster father.

She was perplexed at the Angel’s greeting and message because she was a consecrated virgin who had not expected to conceive child at all, not at that precise moment nor any moment in the future.

If that were the case, @lanman87; Protestantism is refuted by Scripture alone.

As I said in an early post. There is no evidence of her being a consecrated virgin, because they didn’t exist in Judaism, at least according to Jewish Rabbi’s and historians.

Even if that were the case, @lanman87; you have yet to disprove Ever Virgin and Immaculate Conception.

It seems like you’re dancing back and forth
No, just trying to be " catholic" , more universal or on the whole, discussing some of this theology within such framework, like Catholics also used to before dogmatizing things. I myself have not danced back and forth on issue. Would you feel better if I anathemized opposing views as others do?

@lanman87,

Yeah, this is a good argument. I’ll grant you that.

But, start a new thread and we can address that too.

I don’t see any arguments yet, @lanman87. Just going on about consecrated virgins and I’m still waiting on you to take on the other points.

Actually, @mcq72; what I see you doing is what Ianman87’s doing.

The Catholic commands the field and the Protestant throws out claims with no argumentation to prove it.

How much grace does it take to be full of grace? Who should carry and be mother to our Lord God, but one graced and consecrated wholly to that purpose? Scripture affirms in Mary’s own words “all nations shall call me blessed.” That Catholics are generous with that blessing, is no fault IMO. 🙂
