You are correct, i cannot give you scientific evidence for my little story.
They are just guesses about things that might be possible.
I think the Bible is just guesses about things that might be possible.

Since you have no scientific evidence that the Bible came from God, you have to stop
telling young innocent children that if they perform the non violent act of masturbation,
that they will burn in the fires of a place called hell, for eternity. Unless.
Unless they perform a ritual of secretely telling an adult in a position of power of their
transgression. That is child abuse. Since you have no evidence that the Bible came
from God.

So, telling your kids not to do what one believes to be wrong is all that is required to be child abuser?

Not unless you put that unreasonable fear into their trusting minds.
Look how much guilt you have now because of your early programming.
If you told a child that if they didn’t finish their vegetables you would make a phone call
and forces of evil would come and harm them, that would also be child abuse.

The room was filled with hundreds of people.
The man at the microphone said:"I’d like a show of hands of all those who masturbate.
Very good, very good. Now i’d like all the liars to stand up, so we can congratulate
them.

You are extremely off topic. If you’d like to discuss the reasoning behind Church sexual ethics, creating another thread might be the best course of action.

Why whip a dead horse.
There is no direct connection between a God and any of the many, many versions
of your Bibles.

Thank you for admitting that you have no evidence. So, As an athiest you believe by faith alone! Now tell us why we should accept your assertions on this basis!

“Hog wash” is that your answer to
“Bible from God criteria”

Totality of infinity is God. You are God.
Stop putting nonsense and violence into the brains of innocent children.

What in the world are you talking about ? No one is putting " violence into the brains of innocent children." Clarify please. Linus2nd

Your loving God has a place for boys like you who masterbate.
He puts you in hell for eternity, unless you are sorry and go in the box and tell the good father. We start young to control your reproductive organs. Now sleep well, God loves you.

Since you have no scientific evidence that the Bible came from God
Umm… hold on a second. What’s this standard of “scientific evidence that the Bible came from God” all about? If that were the standard of evidence for anything that came into existence longer than 50 or 60 years ago, we’d have to say that we question its provenance! Do we have scientific evidence that Shakespeare wrote the plays that bear his name? Nope, sorry – clearly they’re forgeries! Do we have any scientific evidence that the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are from whom we say they are? Nope – better close up shop in D.C.!

Your standard of evidence is unreasonable. What would be reasonable in these cases is eyewitness testimony, oral or written, from those who experienced these events.

And with the Bible, we have that in spades… 😉
Unless they perform a ritual of secretely telling an adult in a position of power of their transgression. That is child abuse.
Umm… the way you described it, then psychological therapy for kids is also child abuse. Just sayin’… 😉

Thank you for your response.
Like you, I think I’m correct, but I admit I may be wrong.
You are correct, I think, the works attributed to a person named Shakespeare could
have come from an other author.
But, if Shakespeare’s works stated that certain acts were mortal sins, the eternal damnation
ones, and then we tried to force the interpretations of his/her works into/onto the minds
of innocent children, then we would look to the authenticity and authority of the author
Shakespeare.
I have faith that a creator is not real.
You have faith a creator is real.
In order for you to be in an enforceable position, you have to prove that at one point there was nothing. A creation needs a nothing.
For your enforcement power a creation has to be proven.
I’m an infinitist, there was never nothing, there will never be nothing.
Our big bang is expanding into something.
In my faith there is an infinity of pulsating big bangs.
“Has to be” is not proof for either one of us.
Believe what you want, but you can’t enforce without proof of authority.
Thank you

I have more than just ‘faith.’ I have the proof of the testimony of generations of people who testify to the direct intervention and miracles that God has done in our world. You can dispute this truth, of course, just as you can dispute the authorship of “Romeo and Juliet”.
In order for you to be in an enforceable position, you have to prove that at one point there was nothing. A creation needs a nothing.
Standing on the strength of my proof – that is, that the Bible is the inspired word of God, whose actions within this world are documented in the Bible – I can demonstrate that Scripture tells us that God created the universe from nothing. QED.

You require proof of me, but your retort is one based in faith? If faith in God does not prove, then faith in infinitism cannot disprove!

Believe what you want.
To prove authority, outside of your volunteer members, you have to prove God.
You do not have the authority and or the right to hurt the minds of innocent children
with your fire and hell stories. I know many who were hurt with this cruelty.
So, prove God.
You already stated very well about the authenticity of old written stories.

This is funny because there actually is some dispute over the authorship of Shakespeare’s plays. It’s not very widespread, but it does exist.
👍 Exactly the point! There’s no “scientific standard” for the illative sense! Because of that, individuals will look at the evidence that’s provided, and each will decide whether to assent to a given proposition or not.

Of course, what this means is that the claim “there’s no scientific proof” is nonsensical: rather, the claim that’s being made is “I don’t agree with your evidence”… 😉

me,

The case I’m making is that there’s no objective way to ‘prove God’ – this isn’t the sort of thing that formal logic can prove. Therefore, all one can do is look at the evidence provided and decide for one’s self whether the burden of proof has been met.

Now, mind you, that doesn’t mean that any arbitrary personal decision is ‘good’ or ‘correct’, just that each must make his own decision. Take, for example, our court system. I’m sure you can point to many criminal cases in which the jury looked at the evidence and came to a decision that you disagree with. In other words, the fact that they made a decision doesn’t make it the correct decision: but, each must make a decision. the stakes in this game vary, of course, depending on what the impact of the decision is. In the question “does God exist?”, the stakes are very, very high. Choose carefully… 😉

The stakes are very high, only if you have a fear of no afterlife.
Your fears, beliefs. My beliefs. Not a problem.
Hurting the innocent children, a problem.
Hurting the innocent children, the problem.
Hurting the problem.

No… the stakes are high, whether or not you admit to an afterlife. If you deny it, you won’t realize how high the stakes were, until it’s too late, though…
Hurting the innocent children, a problem.
You’re talking about the sacrament of reconciliation? This isn’t abuse. If you have any evidence, produce it. Otherwise, you’re just going on and on about something you have no knowledge about…

I’m talking about natural sexual urges.

Mentally enjoying them, and sexual self gratification.

Telling innocent children they are committing a mortal sin if they do this.

Telling them that this mortal sin is punished by the loving God
with burning them in hell, for eternity.

If you are past the age of innocence and enjoy this control, for whatever reason,
you are an adult and it is your freedom.

But not the trusting innocent children.

The subject of this thread proposed the false proposition that the universe did not have a beginning. You have failed to produce one shred of evidence to prove that false contention, but have gone on to make additional false statements without any basis in fact.
As far as I can see, you have provided zero evidence for any of your false contentions, including this one.
