I have to say the same thing. It is not for me to jugde anyone else and how can i tell what their souls are like? I can`t.

If we know for absolute surity that one has committed a sin of grave matter, for instance sees them steal an item of great value or engage in an serious impure act, and then recieve our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament without going to confession, and the person knows this for sure, they are obliged in all charity to exercise the Spiritual Work of Mercy of:
“Admonishing the Sinner”
and/or
“Instructing the Ignorant”

As has been stated no-one receiving the Eucharist is worthy, a better choice of word is “Am I less unworthy than yesterday?”
Of course another aspect is how unworthy is the priest offering Mass?

What bothers me is the disparity between the percentage of people who receive at an English Mass (99%) vs those who receive at a Polish or Spanish Mass (50%). Is the understanding of sin and scandal the same?

I know this is off topic, but I just wanted to share my experience today…I haven’t been
well and going to church since last September due to auto immune issues…I can request to have communion celebrated at my house, but my pastor stopped in out of the blue…He said he had felt the Lord telling him to fit me in do his busy visitation schedule…As he came to pray and encourage me I had this strong yearning to celebrate the Lord’s supper.I grabbed a piece of wheat bread and some berry juice…He shared the scriptures and we prayed and partook of the bread and body…We both finished with teary eyes and prayed some more. He left thanking me for the visit and shared how he came to encourage me and ended up being encouraged by the close fellowship we shared…I know some might comment on “what the elements were”, but from what we experienced, the Lord was more interested in the act rather that what was used…Life is in that body and blood…God bless all…In these times, as we draw closer to His return may we daily live with pure hearts before the Lord. May we always keep our lamps full and trimmed awaiting His return…May we be ready in season and out to share the hope of Christ which lies within all who put their trust in Him…

While this is a very nice story I will respectfully disagree with your statement that God is less worried about what we use during communion. Christ said during the Last Supper “this do for the commemoration of me”. Keeping the sacrifice is a commandment of the Lord and as the Lord said Himself; “those who love me keep my commandments”. Our Faith is not about how we want to worship God but about how God wants to be worshiped by us. Emotions and feelings (while they are nice) are not the basis of faith or truth. There is no acceptable substitute for the Eucharist because there is no acceptable substitute for Christ.

The begining of John rings true for many Christians today. Christ is present in the Eucharist but there are many Christians who do not receive Him. Yet for those who do He gives them the grace to be His sons and to have enternal life. Consuming the entire sacrifice was one of the requirments handed down by God in the OT regarding the Paschal sacrifice and is still the same requirment with Christ who is the New Paschal Sacrifice in the NT.

It is heartbreaking. I have no patience for it at all.
My parish today, besides being so full that people had to stand, went VERY close to silent on some of the new missal responses. Communion lines took 15 mins+. An absolute disgrace.

You have got to be kidding me. You actually knew for sure that all those people were in a state of mortal sin? I am impressed. I don’t think I could have stayed there among all those sinners.

If almost nobody in the Church has celebrated Mass in 6 months it is either because of one or two reasons, they willfully ignored the Sunday obligation and thus mortally sinned, or they are ignorant of Church commandments. In which case, if they can’t grasp a commandment, it is almost certain that they do not understand the Eucharist. 1 Corinthians 11:29 applies:You have got to be kidding me. “For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.”
To add to that, there were only 2 confessions heard this week, one of them being me. There may very well be exceptions to this, but exceptions are exactly what they are, a minority. I can’t read hearts like Jesus and the saints, but it would be unwise and careless to think that nobody commited a sacrilege during the course of that Mass.

There are situations where you can KNOW someone is in a state of mortal sin … sometimes because you informed them of such. :\
An example would be a coworker of mine. She is Catholic but rarely attends Mass. She is sexually active with her boyfriend and has had an abortion. She told me one day that she receives communion and I immediately informed her that until she went to confession she couldn’t. Period.
Of course my advice means little to her. She is a cultural Catholic and does not believe in sin… although one could argue she is not committing mortal sin since she doesn’t seem fully aware that these things are grave matter but she knows now after talking to me.

Just over a year back, my mother went with me to the Church and at the time of Communion she said she was going to go up and receive the Eucharist. I didn’t believe her but was sure as shocked when she did. She is 53 and hasn’t been to Church since she was 16.
I know her life style and her past, believe me she received the host dishonestly. That did anger me. One, because I was jealous. Two because she made a point of showing me when she came back and sat by my side.
That said however, I know she must have done it in her own attempt to get close to Christ again after all those erratic years.

Because this is your mother I understand why this would make you angry…
This situation would make me sad but she’s your mother! That changes things. Pray for her. This might have been her way of trying to reach out but it might have also been an act of deviance. Hopefully, either way, the Lord will move in her life.

It enraged me all the more because she denounces Christianity itself as a whole, but constantly says conflicting things.
I wonder too if it was a genuine attempt to feel close to Him or just something she did for no positive reason.
