The ‘updated’ 1962 Missal: Coming soon?

Universae Ecclesiae, citing Benedict XVI’s letter to the bishops on the occasion of the publication of Summorum Pontificum, mentioned that “New saints and certain of the new prefaces can and ought to be inserted into the 1962 Missal, according to provisions which will be indicated subsequently.” However, Universae Ecclesiae didn’t mention that a commission to effect this was already established last year.

I for one think it’s great news. It will be great to celebrate the feast of those like St. Maximillian Kolbe at the TLM.

I don’t see why not! It would be great, to celebrate Bl John Cardinal Henry Newman when he’s a Saint with the TLM.

Isn’t that odd, that Bl Pope Pius IX doesn’t like Bl John Cardinal Henry Newman? :rolleyes:

How could he not like him? Didn’t he make Henry Newman a cardinal? Or was that Leo X?

He technically isn’t a saint, only a blessed. And in my defense, there is speculation that he supported Garibaldi’s revolution and the toppling of the Papal States. Unacceptable :mad:

“Only” a Blessed…? Wow, alright.

Rumor has it he’s a candidate for becoming a Doctor of the Church.

Now, now, I meant no offense to him. But yes, he is “only” a blessed as compared to a saint. Though I’m not a fan of him, he was certainly a better man than I’ll ever be. Remember, one of my largest patrons is BLESSED Pope Pius IX.

Some people would say “he’s only a Blessed, his opinion doesn’t matter as much”. Or his rise to Blessed status came too recently to mean anything/be valid (yes, there are people like that).

You’re not one of those people though 👍

Post #1, and probably a Baptism of fire, but the helmets on. I think the Church is better without the Papal States. The less temporal power, the better. Add a dose of persecution, and shell be purged (of the evils within).

Whether the Church is better off without the Papal States is a completely different question than whether the annexation of the Papal States by the Kingdom of Italy was legal or acceptable.

I certainly don`t think the annexation was legal; and my opinioon of Garibaldi and his “redshirts” is probably unprintable; but, in the long run, spiritually. . .

PS: Don`t forget Saint Damian of Molokai, Blessed John XXIII, and the increased suffering of the Dimond Brothers.
 
This is good. It will show people that the Extraordinary Form is still a living liturgy, that it isn’t just an antique of interest only to the few fringe men. I look forward to an updated calendar but I don’t think the Prefaces need touched. I also hope there may be some regularisation of the laity at the Mass. When to stand, kneel etc., and a possible definitive on dialogue Masses, whether they’re to remain just established custom etc.

Exactly. It shows a definite commitment to the older form. I’d be worried if there were no plans to add saints, prefaces, collects, etc.
