Ummm … Jerusalem is also built on a hill - ‘the’ hill, of course, being Mount Zion which is mentioned in Revelations.

For that matter my city of Sydney is built on hills too.

The City on a Hill refers to Jersualem. If you believe it to be Rome you come up with all the Whore of Babylon Hogwash that is simly wrong.

While I don’t think it is a reference to Vatican hill, but rather to the Church as a whole being seen and known by all men, I admit I do use it occasionally in conversations that go somethign like this:

“The RCC is the whore of Babylon because its headquarters are on the seven hills of Rome.”
“Actually it’s not on those hills, it’s on one hill, Vatican hill–you know, like a city on a hill that cannot be hid.”😛
You should say, “Actually it’s on one hill, Vatican Hill, you know, like a city on a hill that cannot be hidden. Oh, by the way, Vatican Hill isn’t even one of the seven hills of Rome. The seven hills are Aventine, Caelian, Esquiline, Quirinal, Palatine, Viminal, and Capitoline. Kind of makes it impossible for the Catholic Church to be the Whore of Babylon then, doesn’t it?”
