Sadly, there are those who don’t even believe in Christ’s existence. If it didn’t matter to them, why would the humble fisherman, the 1st vicar of Christ and his successors, matter?

Huh?

Thanks for the explanation. St. Peter is therefore way ahead than most of us in that he asked to suffer the crucifixion more than what it entailed.

What is most outstanding in this discovery is that it gives more credence to the fact that Jesus was actually crucified. This might be something that most people in this Forum will take for granted but there are people outside of Christianity who do not believe that Jesus died on the cross. St. Peter was a close aide of Jesus and would therefore have intimate knowledge of how his master died. There is no reason for him to ask to be crucified upside down if his master did not undergo the crucifixion.
I went further with what you said (emphasis mine). My apologies. There are really those who don’t believe in the existence of Christ, much less his crucifixion. So if He didn’t matter to them, why would His close aide matter?

I try to understand why you say that but I thought it certainly matters what others think about this. Thomas did not believe but Jesus showed him his hands, feet and side.

I am intrigued and mystified by the Vatican and it was only after seeing that commentary on a TV channel. If I do not believe and nothing is done to make me believe than I will never believe.

Sorry I disagree. The onus is on the apostles to make people believe and that’s what they did. It mattered to them.

I agree with you. I was just trying to think with the mind of those who dismiss it easily. What I believe is that the onus is also on those who are alive today, and has the capacity to witness their faith and the faith of the apostles. Unlike Thomas who knew Christ, those with unbelief think they need to experience something in order to believe.

Think of someone who needs empirical evidence to believe there is a God.

OK, fair enough. I know what you’re saying. 🙂
