The Veil; Heb. 6:17-20

When Jesus was crucified, after he died the veil was rent in twain. The book of Hebrews refers to Jesus flesh as the veil. Ref. Heb. 10:20.

However, Hebrews 6:19-20 says, “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Wither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.”

Can someone please explain?

It’s a mixed metaphor. In chapter 6, Paul, speaking to a Jewish audience, uses “behind the veil” to represent Jesus position as Divinity, as Son of God but also as the One having authority. For only the high priest could go behind the veil into the Presence of God. Christ is the Lord of the Sabbath - and everything else. BUT - God is in Heaven, so it also is about Jesus being from Heaven.

The Crucifixion tore down any barriers between ourselves and God, we no longer have to rely on the mediation of men, but we have Jesus Christ Himself as our High Priest, who carries our petitions into the Presence of the Father.

I’m not sure what the first step to understanding Scripture is - well - prayer I’d say - but I’m pretty sure the discernment of literally intended and metaphorically or symbolically is going to be pretty high on the list.

BTW, if you don’t know who Melchizedek was or what he did, that helps explain it also.

And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine: and he was [is] the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him, and said, “Blessed be Abram to the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth, And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand”. And he gave him tithe from all.
—Genesis 14:18-20

So, Salem was where Jerusalem came to be later. Mechizedek, bringing out the bread and wine for sacrifice, replaced the animal/blood sacrifice. At least, this is how I learned it.

New covenant and all. It’s pretty deep, Paul was a brilliant guy.

Interestingly, Paul immediately begins to speak of love and good works, that this that he says leads ineluctably to them.

Ok, I’ve been digging, but it seems that this also points to the tabernacle. That I do understand somewhat. The 2nd veil separated the inner court from the Holy place. Only the priests could go into the inner court and only the high priest could go into the Holy place, like you stated. Jesus being our high priest went into the Holy place not made with hands, which are the figures of the true, but into heaven itself to appear in the presence of God for us.

The veil, which is to say Christ’s flesh, was made sin for us. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: blotting out the handwriting of ordinances (contained in the law) that was against us, being contrary to us because of the sin in us, Christ took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross.

So I’m thinking that’s why the veil was rent in twain. So then the veil, like you stated, represented the barrier or “wall of partition,” between us and God. So now since the removing of the veil we can come to God in prayer anytime and anyplace Jesus being our mediator and high priest, which is also why we now have a priesthood.

In the old testament, God “chose” the tribe of Levi. Therefore, he also “chose” us in Christ.

I don’t think it’s the veil that is His flesh but the means by which the veil is opened.

Matt 27:50-54 But Jesus, again crying out in a loud voice, yielded up his spirit. And suddenly, the veil of the Sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom, the earth quaked, the rocks were split, the tombs opened and the bodies of many holy people rose from the dead, and these, after his resurrection, came out of the tombs, entered the holy city and appeared to a number of people. The centurion, together with the others guarding Jesus, had seen the earthquake and all that was taking place, and they were terrified and said, ‘In truth this man was son of God.’

The veil was opened at the moment Jesus offered up His flesh.

The Oath - … but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedek

Two Immutable (unchangeable) Things - 1) The Promise and 2) The Oath

Consolation - summons, calling, comfort, solace, exhortation

Fled for Refuge - come out of the world

The Hope - His Spirit, it enters into that within the veil because it came from that within the veil. Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession (the adoption; Rom 8:23). if it were not possible that Christ should be holden of death, we having received his spirit, shall not be holden of death either. Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

**Set Before Us - **made available as a gift of God’s good grace and mercy. God works it in, we must work it out.

The Hope We Have… - behold, the kingdom of God is within you. Not in my body, but in my soul

An Anchor of the Soul - where it goes, I go. It is within me, my soul.
And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? They were eager for the adoption to take place. It is not complete until then. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.

That Within The Veil - the Holy place baring the ark overlaid with gold.

**The Veil - **a.k.a. The Wall of Partition symbolizing the sin that kept us from God. The veil, which is to say Christ’s flesh, was made sin for us. The Forerunner - one who comes in advance to a place where the rest are to follow; Jesus our high priest.

The Order of Melchizedek - first, King of righteousness, King of Salem, which is to say King of peace; without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days not end of life; but abideth a priest continually.

…there’s also the old Covenant’s veil–a sign to the Jews that Jesus was in deed the Son of God… hence, the Holy of holies would enter into a Spiritual reality where, Jesus, the Eternal High Priest, would officiate between God and man.

Here we have Jesus, the Eternal High Priest, entering into the Spiritual Sanctuary where he administers as both the High Priest and as the Holy Sacrifice on our behalf, in the presence of the Father.
