Its a video game… As long as you have the mental capacity to separate reality from a fantasy based universe then I would think you are fine.Would it be sinful to play the Mass Effect games? They include a sex scene if you complete a romance plot and in some cases this could be with someone of the same sex. Both of these are very easy to avoid. The way I’d play the game would prevent me from experiencing the same gendered romance, but I do complete a romance plot. I turn off the TV when the sex scene occurs. Lastly, the game is fairly violent, although less so than games like Halo and Call of Duty. Since this game doesn’t create any sinful feeling in me; so can I play it in good conscious?
In addition, is it okay to play evil characters in games like this? This is not because it’s fun to be evil in games; I much prefer good characters. Still sometimes I want to experience the story with a different character morality (this slightly changes things).
Not only that, The game has an very deep character system with a lot of options for the player to chose from, giving you a huge amount of latitude and control over Shepard’s actions between the story lines major events, and even in them. If you chose the actions you yourself would chose then Shepard probably wont do anything you wouldnt. And besides, when you complete a romance story line the other character totally comes on to you, so you have the option to dismiss it with a dialog choice. And, if by some random chance you do initiate one of them, none are very graphic, you never seen anything other than kissing.
That said Mass Effect is a great game that allows you to wield unprecedented control over the story line and i totally recommend it, a gaming masterpiece.
