yes liberian that’s very true, this film really affected me though. ok its just a movie but it really made me think more about mary and her role in the church and our christian life. pretty spectacular really.

i’m not taking anything away from jesus, far from it, i’ve just been wondering more about mary lately…

thanks again.

hi there,

i recently watched the song of bernadette for the first time and cried through most of it! :o

it got me thinking…
  • do only catholics have sightings (not sure what the correct word is here) of the virgin mary?
  • does mary appear because jesus cannot (for obvious second coming reasons)?
  • would mary every appear to those of other faiths? (i’m thinking it would solve all the current strife between islam and christianity)
i’m not catholic but i have a great respect for her, she’s the ultimate mum.

BUT the thing i can’t seem to get my brain round is that if i was me and jesus was my son, i just couldn’t have let him suffer like that. i just don’t know how she managed to watch him die. i am a mother and i would do anything to protect my child. i’m not criticising mary, far from it, she obviously knew the world had to be saved.

i’d really like to hear some views etc. it would be appreciated very much. 🙂
I believe Jesus suffered and sacrificed for the love of humanity…Mary his mother knew this and respected the wishes of God the Father and her Son…She would never interfere…but she suffered anyway…

As a mother you accept the Will of God.

If you study the Holy Mother sightings the attendance is strong by all faiths…I studied the sightings, and there is true Unity at the gatherings…Yes people of all faiths see her.

All you have to do is believe…

Tiger Lily,

I once listened to a Baptist gentleman describe to me an apparition he had had. He said it was an angel that appeared to him; had he been Catholic, quite likely he would have said that Mary had appeared to him.

I draw a distinction between approved apparitions (and that is perhaps the word that you are looking for), unapproved apparitions, and “apparitions” that have been declared false. Lourdes, Fatima, and Guadeloupe have been approved: the Church has thoroughly investigated what happened and has concluded that most likely it was the Virgin Mary who appeared to the visionaries. By far most apparitions are unapproved, meaning that the Church simply has not looked into them yet. (With many apparitions, the Church will never look into them; the person for whom the message was intended will receive the grace, everybody concerned will get on with his life, and nobody will think much about it any more.) “Apparitions” that have been condemned, such as one to a supposed visionary in Denver a decade or two ago, did not involve Mary at all but were either demonic or involved only the imaginings of the supposed visionary.

The statement that “Mary appears because Jesus cannot” is incorrect. (I realize you phrased it as a question; I am just trying to speak clearly.) Jesus has appeared to many visionaries such as St. Faustina.

I agree with you totally, Mary is the “ultimate mum.”

I was raised Baptist and an Angel appeared to me in the 70’s…I didn’t think too much about it because I believe in them…When I started studying the Holy Mother she appeared to me about 2 years ago…She didn’t say anything she just showed me her crochet, which was the shape of earth and she pointed out different parts and sent thoughts of what she was planning for those different parts, such as Brazil she plans on it being a World Finance center. Soccer will be a World Sport…I snapped out of my state because of the alarm, I would have loved to have communicated with her some more. She has many plans…I feel honored that I am being included…

The irish have a saying: if you see an apparition, look at the feet. Why?

Because if you can’t see their feet that means they’re cloven, and the apparition is a trick of the devil. After all, why hide something if you have nothing to hide?

ps another question…

why isn’t the virgin mary called saint mary? she seems to have lots of titles, our lady etc, why is this?

thank you!
most every diocese has a parish church called St Mary’s like the one in which I was raised

the apparitions at Zeitun have been seen by hundreds, Christians and Muslims

in response to another poster about Mary “dramatizing herself” she does not, quite the opposite, when she has spoken to the visionaries she has often warned them not to tell anyone. It is other believers who hear of the apparitions who create the advertisement and reaction such as at Fatima and Lourdes. When she does tell the visionary to report it is invariably to the local priest or bishop as with Juan Diego.

She appears locally and specific times and places with a message for those at that time and place and I have no doubt there have been hundreds or thousands of appearances that have never been reported except to the visionary’s confessor.

Ok, I’m from Ireland and Mary has appeared to knock shrine in Mayo Ireland. She appeared twice. The first appearance was in the evening time. And the local people saw the light coming from the Catholic Church. The believed it was the priest forgot to switch of the lights. A woman ran home to tell them what she was after seeing. When they went to the church to see was it genuine with more of the local people at the gable of the church … standing there was St. Joseph and St. John and the blessed mother in the middle and St. John had a bible in his hand… but she never talked to the people Mary had a gold crown on her head. And she was in white and the second time she appeared … it was raining… (Which it never does stop doing in Ireland lol) but when she appeared the rain never rained on her! And I have met a woman that was cured at Knock Shine to this day she is cured from suffering from MS. But when our blessed mother appeared it was to the people who saw her were young and old.

I have also gone to Medjugorje which is in Bosnia. Our blessed mother is still appearing two a number of the visionary. Our Blessed Mother appeared first she told them that God is really and we should keep on praying more and more and do the rosary. And the people of Medjugorje told the child visionaries the wanted to see her… when she appeared to the town when the people touched her clothing… the next day she came again to the children visionary (I think) she was dirty… the children asked why are you dirty … she said dear children it is your sins that have made me dirty… So Medjugorje is the worlds biggest commission place in the world… so pray our lady want us to do it for her and for the good of your soul. To discontinue the devil form devastating your souls.

ok the full story about knock

Ok the full story; at about 8 o clock on the Thursday evening of the 21st of august 1897. This was the first of the appearances to the Irish people the blessed virgin mother, St. Joseph and St. John the evangelist appeared at the south gable of the church at knock county Mayo Ireland beside them and a little to their left was an alter with a cross and the figure of a lamb, there were fifteen official witness to the apparition young and old who
watched and prayed for two hours in pouring rain. Two commission f enquiries in 1879 and 1936 accepted their testimony as trustworthy and satisfactory. Pope John Paul has came to Ireland to visited the holy ground of knock Shire where the appearances had occurred

Prayer to our lady of Knock:

Our Lady of Knock, Queen of Ireland
You gave hope to your people in a time of distress
And comforted them in sorrow
You have inspired countless pilgrims
To pray with confidence to your divine son,
Remembering his promise
“Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find”
Help me to remember that we all pilgrims on the road to heaven
Fill me with love and concern for my brother and sisters in Christ especially those who live with me
Comfort me who I am sick, lonely or depressed
Teach me how to take part ever more reverently in the holy mass
Give me a greater love of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament
Pray for me now and at the hour of my death. Amen

Yeah. I guess Mary - the Holy Mother of God, also appears to non-catholics.

To Catholics, she appears to call them to repent and mend their ways.
To Non-catholics, she also appears to call them to conversion and to bring them to the Holy Catholic Church. I have heard a lot of stories about non-catholics who were converted to Catholism thru either apparition or dreams or special grace from the Blessed Mother. Some even became priests.

Their conversion means that the Blessed Mother showered them graces of conversion, that is why the Blessed Lady is also called the Mediatrix of All Graces. This means she distributes all graces to souls around the world (Catholic and Non-Catholic). Thru Her the world receive the source of All graces - Jesus. So it is also rightful the people receive graces only thru Her.

I actually remember seeing a movie when I was a child… and the only part I remember was that the Mary statue came to life, spoke, and bright lights were all around her… For me, this struck a cord, and do believe in the sightings that are seen. I believe that she comes to those to relay an important message from our Lord, Jesus Christ… Also, being a mother figure, we can trust he, whereas if Jesus came to us, well, His great glory would be overwhelming… I see Mary as a Mediator, to add to our prayers, for someone to look up to as another human.
