Here is a thread I started which outlines some of the things I think and believe, many of which make me “potentially heterodox” in the sight of some around here.

I think that, among other things it would remove the stigma still prevalent in some areas that the priesthood is a gay career and I think it would improve vocations as well as male sacramental attendance and parish involvement.

So your proposing that the Church should change its position to the detriment of dedication and devotion of a pastor to his flock so that ignorance, prejudice, or incredulity toward the vow of chastity could be appeased?

1. There is no evidence that a celibate priest is any more dedicated or devoted than a married priest.
2. Are you saying that marriage is insulting to chastity?
3. I was asked for reasons. I gave reasons. Sacerdotal celibacy remains a custom which the church can change as it sees fit. I pray that it will.

1. There is no evidence that a celibate priest is any more dedicated or devoted than a married priest.
   There is lots of testimony and logical critical thought behind it. Ask any non-catholic minister who has experienced the reasons first hand.

   Well first a vow of celebacy is a choice. Its made during the discernment process. That process should be adequate for the man to determine if he can abide and his love of God is strong enough to give up his life so that he may find it for the Lords sake.
3. I was asked for reasons. I gave reasons. Sacerdotal celibacy remains a custom which the church can change as it sees fit. I pray that it will. Does it affect you in some way that drives you to be concerned with it? Such as your own marriage or sexual orientation. Having kids I know that they can be draining. Paul said that one cannot be concerned with things of the Lord and His wife and that it would be better if all were as he was. Very sound advice that I have experienced first hand in my life which enables me some understanding. The Priests spouse is the church. He should cleve to Her so that he may feed Christs sheep.

Excuse me, but methinks this thread is way off track and that it may be me somewhat to blame. I only asked a question. I also promised not to debate the answer. I think that if anyone else wants to take issue with his reponse to my question should do so on a thread devoted to the topic. Just a thought…

Hello everyone,

I’ll like to know if Jerome ever made any statements or had beliefs/opinions that where contrary to accepted Christian beliefs. If he did, I’ll like to know where is the historical evidence.
