I often hear the excuse that a person will not vote for the obvious pro-life candidate because he supports the war in Iraq. Although I disagree with this argument, and don’t think that one can equate the two, I understand this position.

However, now that President Bush has signed a time table for withdrawing troops from Iraq starting next year, getting the US out of Iraq completely in the next few years, how does that affect that argument? Doesn’t it make that in fact, a moot point? The US has its time table for withdraw. And the other candidate has no argument to pick about the war with this withdrawl. Especially with his choice of a vp running mate that supported the war.

So now that this has been decided, what will the people that use that argument do as far as voting? How do you justify not opposing the pro-choice, pro-abortion, pro-death candid now?

Last time I checked, I wasn’t required to justify to anyone my voting. It was a matter of conscience, and private between me and the ballot box. 👍

(sorry - I know you’re asking a serious question, I’m in a silly mood today 😛 )

Right, there’s no equation there in the first place. But if the war issue were to disappear - or perhaps it has as you have outlined - those who opposed pro-life candidates are going to have to find something else for cover. The anti-life vote has never had a rational basis, so I don’t think finding another straw man will be a problem.

Finally someone who gets it. I dont understand why catholics think they can vote pro-abortion and think its OK!

It’s CATHfusion, Matt. A Catholic brand of confusion whereby true Catholic morality and identity can be denied by a person claiming true Catholic morality and identity has driven him to deny it.

Hah. I like that “CATHfusion”. I know of many cathfusionists in my parish. It truley is sad that they even consider themselves catchlic

The fall back position is usually quality of life. Thing that help the dignity of the person, like healthcare, unemployment benefits, etc. Nevermind that being cut up, melted with acid or thrown in a trash can is also a poor quality of life.
