I’m fairly certain I’ve heard the above phrase before, but for the life of me I can’t find the source. Does anyone recognize it? More importantly, does it actually reflect the teaching of the Catholic Church?
The closest thing I can think of is the beginning of the Athanasian Creed:
Whosoever will be saved, before all things it is necessary that he hold the catholic faith; Which faith except every one do keep whole and undefiled, without doubt he shall perish everlastingly.
Of course we are not expected to know everything from Day One, but we are expected to seek out the truth and to assent to it once we know it.
