Hi Bill, the reason some preachers claim the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon, I believe, is because they have never read Eekiel 16. The Bible itself tells us who the Whore of Babylon is “Jerusalem” because she became corrupted in 586 B.C. and again in 70 A.d.
Many do not study history along with the Bible or the people it was written too. I have found the Book of Revelation to be a can of worms for most people.To me,the Book of Revelation was God’s way of giving historical facts for the pusecution of the Early Christian Church and the unveiling of Jesus Christ Bride, “The Church” to the world.Most Ministers do not believe this way, I know I have debated many on Revelation.
Once again “We see as through a clouded glass.”

Some call the Church the whore of babylon because of the seven hills of Rome. Most do not understand that Vatican Hill is not one of the seven hills of Rome. Vatican Hill used to be cemetary. This is obviously one of those problems of scripture alone, because it fails to use history, amongst other things.

Very good question. I have often wondered that myself. The whole “whore” thing is still, unfortunately, passed on because of old “teachings” that were made our of ignorance and bias.

Hi gnoa, I’d like to take this statement 1 step further. No were in Revelation are the 7 hills conected to Rome.Revelation 17:9 tells of 7 heads on the 7 hills. Going back to Eiekiel 16 we know Jreusalem is the Whore. & heads refures to 7 Heroids in pwer during Early Christian Church to birth of Christ. Heriods were a puppet goverment of the Roman Empire and Caesar. 7 hills then has to be refuring to God’s Covenant with Abraham on Mt. Moriah,were Jerusalem was built. 7 is a symbol for Covenants in Salvation History. Many assume 7 hills is for Rome not Jerusalem, I feel this is were the mistakes come in about the Catholic Church being the Whore of Babylon.

The closest thing, in the NKJV, is Rev 17:5–And on her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

“Whore of Babylon” is a completely different concept–a harlot belonging to or coming from Babylon.

Well, I could give you the simple answer or the more complex answer. The simple answer is that these preachers are very foolish in their interpretation of Scripture and are best ignored unless you live in a country that allows you to smack people upside the head.

The complex answer is that in order for all the vagaries and half-truths and historical inconsistencies of Protestantism (especially stuff like the subjective emotion-based Pentecostalism), they first have to prove that the Catholic Church is wrong since we can trace Catholicism back to the Apostles. Since said Protestant groups cannot do that, they resort to attacking Holy Mother Church. Since they are Bibliolaters, they like to resort to some kind of attack based on their sordid interpretation of Scripture and somehow they draw a connection between Rome (you know, in Italy) and Babylon (you know, in the Middle East) and some kind of connection between their stupid accusations that the Catholic Church is infested with Greco-Roman paganism and Babylonian paganism (two different breeds of paganism) and that, even though the Vatican is NOT on one of the prophesied Seven Hills of Rome, but hey, if these guys had half-a-brain they’d be called gifted.

So, in the end, unless you live in a country that allows walloping people for sacrilege, just ignore them and walk on by.

I know that Revelation does not connect the hills with Rome; however, I have heard several Protestant ministers, especially Pentecostals, make this connection for whatever reason (more than likely to bash Catholicism). This train of thought is so prevalent that a Roman History professor friend of mine brings up this statement in her classes in order to dispel the myth/notion made by Protestant ministers.

Best to love those who speak against you much.
The other day a yound pentacostal fellow an i stopped out side the supermarket and had a chat.

He told me that Catholics are not Christians and do not believe in Jesus because they make smoke.

Well i thought this is new, and sought agreement he was referring to smoke as incense.

Of course i rarely tell people they are full of it, so showed my amazment at his words and asked where he got it.

He replied his mum and dad had thought him that.

I kindly shared with him that Catholics i know do really speak and most times act as people that do believe in Yeshua (pbwh).

I also shared we are called to honour our parents and we do this well by seeking truth for ourselves and put right in the house the truth as we can testify.

People both Catholic and not often don’t seek truth but trust those spooning “it” up to us.

In my Grandparents time Limbo was oft taught and spoken of, today i would not as i know of any Church that ever has it as doctrine.

Some of us like those that preach the whore of Babylon line are at different places on the journey and might be blessed by Our Father if we love them extra and talk to Our Father about them and what they speak.
