Traditionally, “Sophia” [Wisdom] has been identified by ecclesiastical commentators as another name for the pre-incarnate Jesus, the Divine Logos. Hence the reason why the mother Church of the Orthodox world in Constantinople was known as the “Hagia Sophia” [Church of the Holy Wisdom]. In a sense though, one can also identify wisdom with the Holy Spirit since it is one of the seven gifts bequeathed by this Person of the Holy Trinity.
