…interesting take on the US–I’ve always though of it as the kingdom from the North that would stand with the people of God; but after learning about planned parenthood’s affiliations with the various UN pro-death chapters and hearing from President Obama about the “new world order” where those who reject the pro-death systems will be excluded from membership and will be left to stand alone regardless of the impending crisis that they may face, coupled with the strong-arming that the UN (really planned parenthood and the global homosexual machine) is using to force weak nations to capitulate (Greece just recently came under the hammer: align or die!) and accept that “new world order” charter (yeah the one where Christianity never existed)… {I’m fuming as I type!} I can see how you can come to your conclusion… I would not give the US full credict though, Israel has always had the tendency to ignore Yahweh’ Commandment and follow the creatures around them!

Indeed, Israel has had a ‘whore’s forehead’ as the Spirit put it through the prophet Ezekiel iirc…

Another thought I had was in Rev. 13 it shows the body of leopard, the feet of the bear, and the mouth of the lion on the beast… and those correspond to the book of Daniel, where leopard is a picture of the Grecian empire, Bear the Persian, and Lion the Babylonian. In other words, Greece, Iran, and Iraq. Perhaps the ‘eighth is of the seven, and was, and is not, yet shall ascend’ refers to those three ‘heads’ rising as the new, one, eighth ‘head’. So it could be UN related. 😊

All very curious, but I just know that the heads are maybe the biggest clue we have to knowing when Satan is loosed.

Purple and scarlet are the colours of royalty, nobility and wealth. The woman is a prostitute who has successfully plied her trade and become extremely wealthy through her fornication with the nations of the earth.

“On her forehead was written a name …” It was customary for Roman prostitutes to wear headbands with their names written on them, as advertising. This harlot’s forehead is emblazoned with her name … the city is “Babylon the great”.

But this Babylon must be other than the historical Babylon, which still existed in John’s day, and it would seem that the details of John’s vision cannot yet be applied to any historical city. But when its time comes, the harlot city and the beast / antichrist will join forces to exert influence over the whole earth. In the meantime, the specifics remain a mystery.

The identity of this spiritual Babylon is yet to be revealed. Suggestions of Rome, or Jerusalem, or Mecca are pure speculation.

…to me it seems that these Apocalyptic visions are/will be UN related since it is through the UN that the power mongers assert their dominance; it seems quite feasible that “armageddon” might be a less conventional war than we think; it might be the conglomeration of Obama’s “new world order” meets neoEurope meets Islam… something akin to the past colonization of “the new world” and Africa–except that in this scenario it would be the “man/machine” against Chritians (check the various assaults on Christianity throughout the world–specifically in the US, Canada, and the founding of the Europe states); “armageddon” might have already been engaged!

I am trying to understand who the woman is dressed in purple and scarlet that is glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls and drinks from her golden cup filled with aboninatons and abonimal things written on her forehead. It seems to represent the Catholic Churchs Eucuristic Cup that we drink from and the Popes ceremonial head piece which when translated from Latin to English states Instead of God. In addition the Roman numerology adds up to 666 which is the marking of the beast. Help me to understand. I am very confused by this. Have been a part of the Catholic Church all my life and never realized this. I am 44 years old. And I do not understand what the 7 heads of the beast represent? Please help me with this.

I understand that Obama is a mouth-piece… but I consider his predisposition as the only peson (as has been claimed) to vote against any measure to assist (allow prolifers to salvage) the babies that have survived the abortive process… that coupled with his quickness at supporting and financing homosexuality and world-wide abortion, his statement that he would “not punish” his daughters with having to carry a pregnancy to term, his sensibility to anything-Christ that might offend people, and his support of Islam (the various speeches where he places Islam on a pedestal and his 50,000,000 dollars donation for building mosques around the world)… it seems, at least to me, that it is not due to ignorance but rather to deligence that our President has opted to support and spearhead these elements of “change.”

Why does it matter to me? It really does not matter–yet, when a person claims to be Christian, should he/she be at the forefront of the assaults on Christianity?

I’m pretty sure this woman is Ishtar. She has many names right up to the present day-including Liberty/Columbia/Brittainia. Look into it. It’s a bit unnerving. Tell me what you think.

Ishtar had absolutely nothing to do with Britannia, Columbia, or Libertas.

For one thing, Britannia and Columbia were never worshipped by pagans. They are personifications of the UK and the US, invented by non-pagans for poetic and artistic convenience.

Libertas was a minor Roman goddess associated with freed slaves and the Roman state’s freedom from foreign rule. Her worship died out so long ago that we don’t even know what it consisted of. We know a great deal more about the goddesses Libera (goddess of fertility and adulthood, wife of Liber Pater, festival called Liberalia) and Libitina (Venus title associated with a sacred grove near the area originally reserved for all Roman funerals and funeral pyres; her priests were originally the only undertakers in town).

Liberty has been used as a convenient non-pagan, non-goddess, poetic and artistic personification ever since paganism died out enough that Christians could make use of such personifications. Medievals weren’t going out back to burn up cows as a sacrifice to some old Roman goddess, I guarantee you.

Why would medieval Christians be interested in liberty?

2 Corinthians 3:17.

“And where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

Or as it says pithily in the Vulgate, “Spiritus Domini ibi libertas.”

“Libertas” was also used as a good-sounding Latin translation of the medieval French concept of “debonairete”, which meant both properly noble and free behavior, and meekness. Libertas appears in Chartres Cathedral under this meaning.

Moving along… the only people who could possibly associate these diverse figures are Christian conspiracy theorists, atheists mocking Christianity, or neo-pagans, all of whom have a vested interest in insisting that every female figure in the entire world is the same female figure. (And they all owe a debt to The Golden Bough by Frazer, because Frazer wanted to prove that Christ and YHWH were just another couple of pagan gods.)

If you really want to huddle in fear, you should huddle in fear because Esther (star) and Ishtar (star, specifically referring to Venus as a “star”) really are the same name. But Esther was a Jewish woman who was given a pagan name in a pagan language; she was not a pagan goddess.

The OP is a troll most certainly. As for the city being Rome or Jerusalem scrpture says the city sits on seven mountains. Old Rome sat on seven hills none of which were higher than 120 feet above sea level. These seven hills were all to the east of the Tiber River. Vatican Hill [where the Vatican is located] is to the west of the river and was outside the walls of ancient Rome. Modern Rome now sits on 22 hills. None of which would be confused with a mountain. To call these hills mountains would be akin to calling a two story walkup a skyscraper. Jerusalem does sit on seven mountains about 2500 feet above sea level but only five are named as mountains. In addition Constantinople and Babylon [the original] itself are said to be built on seven hills. Apparently it was quite common in ancient times to describe any city of importance as being ‘built on seven hills’.

There’s a flaw in your reasoning. All the scriptures we have are translated from the Greek. In the Greek the same word is used for hill and mountain. It is only the adjective used with the word hill which distinguishes the two.
A high hill is a mountain; a low hill is a bump. Hill by itself could be anything…
To call these hills mountains would be akin to calling a two story walkup a skyscraper.
There are places in scripture translated “mountain” in places where no mountain has ever been. To some, this is proof that scripture is in error – to me it’s proof that some translators don’t know their geography worth a hill of beans.
Jerusalem does sit on seven mountains about 2500 feet above sea level but only five are named as mountains. In addition Constantinople and Babylon [the original] itself are said to be built on seven hills. Hmmm… interesting.
But the passage in revelation doesn’t need to refer to Jerusalem’s geography – it only needs to allude to her alliance and dalliance. King Herod and also Pontius Pilate are the ones who could qualifiy as “fornication” the actions of these nations.

Isaiah had already spoken of Israel being the one supposed to be a virgin – and then talks sexually about the dark chaldean being laid on the ground… and having someone sit on her belly (womb). Sexual position, you see?

The second strongest clue is the name “Babylon”. That is where southern Israel was sent for her “fornication” and “harlotry.”.

Jesus’ church does not consist entirely of Jewish churches; St. John is speaking of seven churches in the first chapters… and hence – Jesus’ churches never went into Babylonian captivity.

St. John also speaks about the woman sitting where the waters come together – and this is also echoed by the historical place of Babylon which is at the joining of rivers.

Rome has the tiber – but I am unaware of any other such river.

The third clue is that Revelation indicates the woman was destroyed by her fornicators; she was ‘burned’ to the ground and razed. Cf. Revel 16:16

However Israel, and it’s temple,-- were razed to the ground by her supposed ally – Rome.

The Catholic church, even when it took over Rome, never suffered this fate –
And even though Rome itself under Nero burned; that doesn’t quite fit either – for it was an accident from within.

St. John warns us that what follows requires a “discerning” eye; and that isn’t surprising. It’s difficult reading … with lots of history included. To understand it, regardless of who Babylon “really” is a figurine of – requires examining the historical setting of the literal Babylon when it did exist.

Whatever is happening in Revelation is parallel to what did happen in Babylon.

Mystery Babylon sits upon seven hills. According to the text, the seven hills are not literal hills. They are seven kings, or kingdoms that mystery Babylon is associated with. These seven kingdoms most likely are the seven kingdoms during the history of Israel who persecuted, warred, ruled and/or esnslaved Israel.

Six of the seven kingdoms are 1) Pharoah of Egypt,** (Book of Exodus)** 2) Sennacharib of the Assyrian Empire,** (2 Kings)** 3) Nebuchadnezzar of the Babylonian Empire, (2 Kings) 4) King Ahasuerus Persian-Mede Empire, (Book of Esther) 5) Antiochus Epiphanes of the Grecian Empire, (Book of Macabbees) 6) Ceasars of the Roman Empire (the NT).

The passage in question says that the seven hills represent the seven heads (kingdoms) of the beast upon which mystery Babylon sits. Five are (the ones listed above?), one is (the Roman Empire?) and one is yet to come (the future kingdom which will persecute and/or war against Israel and Christians?)

Mystery Babylon is symbolized as a woman who commits adulteries with the kings of the earth. It is very likely that she is antithesis of the holy bride, heavenly Jerusalem who is the mother of us all.

Mystery Babylon is the opposite spirit of Heavenly Jerusalem.

It is my conjecture that mystery Babylon represents the spirit of mammon, the spirit of the pursuit of human wisdom, wealth, riches, and the appetites of the flesh.

So much for conjecture.

I think far too many people are too preoccupied with prophecy. Let him who hath wisdom reckon etc…
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Understanding is a gift of the Holy Spirit. God will take care of His own when the time comes. It is better to learn of Christ who is meek and humble of heart and avoid too much curious meddling.

Actually they said the same thing about Bush [both of them] and Clinton and Reagan too. And whoever the next one to be elected is they will say the same thing about them too. You do not have to be an idiot to be a member of the ultra conservatives but it will get you promoted.

“Babylon is fallen! Is fallen!” And the merchants stand far off and weep. This is an economic system, and Jack Van Impe suggests the European Union is a great candidate for the revived Roman Empire of Daniel and John’s Apocalpyse.

666/616 is the number of Solomon’s profane tax or tariff. Again, an economic system.

The Mark of the Beast is needed to buy or sell. Economic system.

But nooooo! The Pope is sporting a hat that says wicked stuff in Latin as if nooooobody in the Catholic Church noticed that. Right…This is ear-tickling error at its rebellious finest. Get faithful and true and stand on the Rock.

My initial thought was that the Catholic Church did not exist at that time as possessing the qualities seemingly parallel to what may be described in the Book of Revelation. Then I remembered that you may be taking the Book of Revelation as a book of forecast. I don’t take it that way.

So my second thought was this: It seems counter-intuitive, if not downright stupid, for an institution which was responsible for canonizing and guarding the scripture in question to become the very thing the Book of Revelation describes. This is why prophetic forecasts should be approached with the utmost scrutiny. I think we have to take the position that whom- or whatever is being described would be very much aware of their position within this prophecy (If you take it to be prophecy). On these grounds, it would make sense for certain popes and cardinals, who would be in the position of knowledge, to easily change vestments and such to defy the prophesy. I think a good rule for discerning a prophecy’s efficacy is if it describes an event very specifically and which would be otherwise inconceivable and/or improbable, if not impossible. I think the same holds true for its fulfillment. The fulfillment must be incontrovertibly the same as the prophecy which describes it. I don’t mean literally that we must see a beast with seven heads, but rather that we must see something which leaves no holes for reasonable doubt as to its symmetry (I made that up) with the prophecy.

My third thought was, don’t hurt your brain or your heart over these matters. Trying to discern as yet unknown patterns in mystical prophecy is unwise. What will come to pass will come to pass as it is written and all will be revealed in due time. If your heart is with Christ and you are otherwise certain that the Catholic Church is Christ’s Church, then ignore whatever parallels may appear to be in the Book of Revelation. It has no bearing on your faith or the Catholic Church. In fact, if you end your faith because of such things, you would be in a bit of a contradiction because you have to take as a pre-existing premise to the Book of Revelation the truth and legitimacy of the Church. And you can’t necessarily become Protestant because at 40-some-odd years old, you’ve already been drilled on their lack of claim to apostolic succession, leaving them with no claim to legitimacy at all.

PS I had a thought about the distinction between the Catholic Church and the Catholic institution. As an institution, I think perhaps no more atrocities have been committed than by the Catholic institution and a hefty handful of members of such, but it is otherwise undeniable that the Church is the one true, just Church. So on the off chance that the Book of Revelation may describe the Catholic institution, it could never describe the Church.

…something that gets lost in “applied” theory is the fact that only a spouse can be adulterous… and that the dealing with other nations is not simply mercantile but the actual assimilation of their deities and forms of worship!

Hi, Micah!

I concur with with (pursuit of human wisdom) since St. Paul states that those things (not just images) are idolatry!:
5 That is why you must kill everything in you that is earthly: sexual vice, impurity, uncontrolled passion, evil desires and especially greed, which is the same thing as worshipping a false god; 6 it is precisely these things which draw God’s retribution upon those who resist. 7 And these things made up your way of life when you were living among such people, 8 but now you also must give up all these things: human anger, hot temper, malice, abusive language and dirty talk; 9 and do not lie to each other. You have stripped off your old behaviour with your old self, 10 and you have put on a new self which will progress towards true knowledge the more it is renewed in the image of its Creator; (Colossians 3:5-10)
