This Lent The Word Among Us will sponsor a free online Bible study. The topic will be prayer. There will be six sessions, one for each week of Lent. Kevin Perrotta, an award-winning Catholic writer and editor, will be leading the online discussion.

Each session will have a five-minute video, and there will be a question or topic for discussion for each day of the week. All materials (videos, questions, and online discussion) will be available for free on our Facebook page.

I hope that we can have a discussion here on this promising Bible Study.

In listening to the information, I was struck by his comment that we invite Jesus to accompany us on our Lenten retreat. I wonder if that is being presumptuous. I didn’t think so. Sometimes I forget to ask Jesus to be with me. I will ask for help or thank Him but to say be with me. It never occured to me. :o

What do you think?
 
There are those here including me, who takes a break from CA during lent. This year I am only going to take a break from the rest of CA but I am going to continue to post here for the Word Among us Bible Study. I am excited about the subject of the study one that I was begining to contemplate, Prayer. I hope that there will be a good discussion to make the journey of Lent a profitable one which I assume is the purpose of this study. In one week, the first video and question will be posted. God Bless all and have a great Lent.

Question

‎2.22.12. One day Elijah was bold enough to challenge his opponents to a public test of faith (1 Kings 18:19-25). The next day, when Jezebel threatened him, Elijah fled for his life (19:1-3). What happened to Elijah’s faith? How would you explain his erratic behavior? What ups and downs do you experience in your relationship with God? How do you handle them? What resources help you remain steady and faithful to the Lord through changing circumstances and moods?
 
My faith is a lot like Elijah. One day I am sure of God and that He will see with through any troubles and the next I experience doubts sure that the world is against me. I guess I forget like Elijah that faith in God does not mean that we will never experience trouble. That trust in God does not mean our will but His.

Elijah ran to a tree for comfort. We can run to the Eucharist. How fortunate we are. Speaking of that tree, it reminded me of Jonah. Jonah also sat under a plant and talked to God. Jonah also prayed to die for entirely different reasons than Elijah. Elijah was afraid for his life. Jonah was angry because his enemy was spared. In my life, I am both Elijah and Jonah. I am afraid because I forget to trust. I am angry because I forget to love.

2.23.12. 2. Now, at the beginning of Lent, is a good time to read through Jesus’ brief but fundamental instruction on almsgiving, prayer, and fasting in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 6:1-18). Read it as though it is his personal word to you about how he would like you to do acts of kindness, fast, and pray this Lent because it is!

This is the scripture that tells us not to let others know when we give alms, fast or pray. We are to do these things for God and not for personnal gain. Those condemned as hypocrtes wish personnal glory. They want the fame of look what I did. How would this tie into Elijah? Elijah left his servant and went further into the desert and sat under a tree to talk with God. He went to a quiet place like Jesus said go into your house into an inner house. That is part of the lenten journey to enter into that quiet room to be still and listen to what God wants.

How about some help here. I would be interested in hearing some fresh ideas other than mine. 🤷
