From Christmas Mass during the Day, (Gospel – John 1:1-18):
How vulnerable a newborn is! St. Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face wrote: “A God who became so small can only be Love and Mercy!” One of my favorite Christmas hymns is:
Can any of us even begin to fathom the joy of Mary and Joseph in seeing Jesus for the first time? I think not. Yet as I read the Scriptures for Mass, earlier this morning before our small Christmas crib, my heart rejoiced simply to ponder the wonder of God Who loved us so much He sent His Son, born of a woman, and sent Him as a baby!…And the Word became flesh
and made his dwelling among us,
and we saw his glory,
the glory as of the Father’s only Son,
full of grace and truth…
How vulnerable a newborn is! St. Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face wrote: “A God who became so small can only be Love and Mercy!” One of my favorite Christmas hymns is:
Sleep! Holy Babe! upon Thy mother’s breast;
Great Lord of earth and sea and sky,
How sweet it is to see Thee lie
In such a place of rest,
In such a place of rest.
Sleep! Holy Babe! Thine angels watch around,
All bending low with folded wings,
Before th’incarnate King of kings,
In reverent awe profound.
In reverent awe profound.
May we gaze with Mary upon His Face, not just this Christmas but always! Blessed Christmas to all.Sleep! Holy Babe! while I with Mary gaze
In joy upon that face awhile,
Upon the loving infant smile
Which there divinely plays.
Which there divinely plays.
