Hello everyone,
Shortly after making the virtual tour of the Sixtine Chapel, I found myself learning about aboriginal tribes that live bare naked four centuries.
One of them is the Yawalapiti people in South America.
They appear, very simple and humble and childlike. I think this greatly contribute to their living peacefully with each other bare naked. If regular ‘civilized’ people would attempt that, I think they would go mad. So I think these people don’t struggle with lust as much as we do. I read some documentation about them, it appear they don’t suffer from rapes. Homosexuality, even polygamy are not-existant. However, though marriage is strongly upheld, they do suffer from adultery, of course they don’t consider it a problem or a big one.
Spiritually, like most forest tribe, they have strong traditional belief is spirits and bonding or struggling with those spirits in their style, etc.
Well, this is a brief summary of what I have learned so far.
There are several simple pictures on Flickr.
I think they are great. However, I think if they were to be Christians, occasional dressing would be more glorifying to God. Dressing not to hide anything, but to put on garment that points to God and heavenly realities. One of those occasions for dressing up would be in the Church for instance.
They seem to have a sense of decoration any way. I think the understanding of Christianity can basically make those decoration more meaningful. I would not want an evangelization that tells them that being naked is sinnful. I think this is how we got where we are now in our civilized world, even in the Church. I think today in the Church we need more clarity and much less ambiguity. The Devil hides in embiguities.
My reason of sharing/writing is to know how case like this one should be considered. I am being insane to see them as somehow more pure than most of us in our ‘civilized’ society? am I exagerating something? What’s the best way to consider this?
Or the best question I guess:
What would Jesus desire for these people if he were there visiting them?
