You can all look this up. The year in history is 69AD.
Galba, Otho, Vitellius, and Vespasian, who survived beyond year’s end. With Vespasian came the second imperial dynasty, the Flavians.
I am curious about this in relation to something I read in the bible, that I find interesting.
According to John 19:15
But they shouted, “Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!” “Shall I crucify your king?” Pilate asked. “We have no king but Caesar,” the chief priests answered.
The interesting thing about that response is this.
The last Roman emperor that was in the Caesar line was Nero. He died in 68AD.
Over the next year or so, there was violent competition over the rights to the throne of Rome. Hence, the year of the 4 emperors.
The last emperor, Vespasian finally took over and ruled for at least a decade. The interesting thing is it was Vespasian who ordered the destruction of the Temple in 70AD. (side note. He built the Colosseum with the spoils of war from the sacking of Jerusalem and was built on top of the Nero monument)
I just find that it is interesting how the Temple remained there, until the last Caesar died. Coupled with the proclamation of the Jewish leaders of the day when they said, “We have no king but Caesar” it seems there was providence over what had transpired after Nero died. Also, with what Christ had said in regards to the destruction of the Temple that no stone shall be left upon another.
Then again, there is providence in everything that has happened. I just find that interesting.
