Oh my, I had not heard about this.

Salford is my diocese also.

Thank you for posting this.

If at all possible I will go to the Holy Name on the 18th.

Love and Blessings

Lord Jesus I believe that you are truly present in the blessed sacrament, i worship and adore you on your alters in the blessed sacrament and I beg forgiveness for those that do not believe do not worship and do not adore.

This is terrible and truly worrying especially after the recent thefts of holy relics in Ireland.

My understanding of the post on the Holy Name website is that the VG has asked for prayers in every parish of the diocese…but my PP hasn’t mentioned anything about it. So if you can conveniently get to Holy Name, say one for me as well! 🙂

Since I started this thread, I was wondering about the motive. It may not be overtly anti-religious (I hope not, for the sake of those responsible). Metal theft is becoming an increasingly common crime in the UK, as the cost of various metals increases (especially e.g. copper and gold). Within the last 18 months, copper wire was stolen from the electricity substation opposite my house (resulting in hundreds of homes being without electricity for 24 hours), and the brass plates listing the war dead were stolen from the local cenotaph. Perhaps this act was motivated by wanting to make money by this means, rather than being motivated by anti-religious sentiment.

the Holy Name is not the easiest church to get to (for me), but I have been before for other things. If I do get there I will indeed say one for you!

I will (hopefully) be going to Mass tonight and will try to find out if anything will be happening in the parish.

I know it has been “called for” but have found that not everything called for comes into being.

Love and Blessings

Who could be so foolish?

And why are Methodists having services in a Catholic church

I did a little digging into the possible root of this dispicable phenomenon, and I came across some disturbing things, but one really stuck out to me in particular. Radical atheist activist P.Z. Myers, who operates a militant atheist blog called Pharyngula, asked his followers to steal, and send to him, consecrated communion wafers so that he could desecrate them on film for distribution to his blasphemous followers.

He recieved countless communion wafers, and he claimed that he desecrated them, but by then, our dear Irish Wolfhound, Bill Donahue, was breathing down his neck and he began trying to tone down the hateful blather. When Bill zeroes in, rectal tension is known to occur, and I think Mr. Atheist got a little nervous.

Still, reading the comments section of this guy’s blog revealed a mass hatred of Roman Catholicism that struck me as being downright dangerous. In fact, one of these vile atheists stated that he holds Blasphemy Parties, where the most vile acts of desecration are carried out…ritualistically. There were many on that site who would (I am convinced) gladly do anything against what we hold sacred.

Maybe we need to revive the Knights Templar. Where do I sign up? I am ready, willing and able. Certain lines just must not be allowed to be crossed. These desecrations constitute something beyond the pale…in my view.

Good evening, unafraid,

Your report on these people, without your mentioning it, reads like they could be Satanists, rather than your run of the mill Militant Atheist. That’s just my take on it.

God loves you,
Don

Is it certain that this is a Catholic chruch, or dual CofE and Methodist church? A priest in suit and tie not a clerical collar?

And I have never heard ol the Precious Blood being reserved in the tabernacle.

The priest in the photograph is wearing a clearical collar, not a tie, although you have to look closely. And if you real the notice board next to him in the photograph, it says at the top “Christ Church - Catholics and Methodists in Partnership”.

Here is a link to the Roman Catholic diocese of Salford website, at which this Church is listed as a Catholic church, sharing its buildings with the Methodist community: dioceseofsalford.org.uk/index.php?option=com_locator&view=directory&layout=details&id=891

Funny, but I don’t recall heretics being welcomed to have their heretical ceremonies in the church in history.

Yay, England and modernism.

I was waiting for someone to use this to attack the UK:D. Insults aside, I am concerned about the security of the situation. The Tabernacle was in a separate “meditation room” while the Methodists were having their service elsewhere in the building. Was this meditation room unlocked? Unalarmed? This would have made theft easier. That is one of the dangers of having the Sacrament hidden away in a separate room, if everything is unlocked during a service it is very easy for someone to sneak in and do something like this. I know that excessive security is something we don’t want and shouldn’t have to see in Church, but things like this make you wonder.

i think i read that in mexico today or yesterday 5 armed men came into a catholic church and stole the monstrance with the Host. or maybe there were 5 people in the chapel when the armed men came in. has anyone else read of this?

I think I saw this on CAF, in the News forum when I was going to post this thread. If you look back over a couple of pages you may be able to find it. 🙂
