Are most of us Catholics Theistic Evolutionists?
I was trying to convey an option meaning ‘God centered evolution’ and ‘no God centered evolution’…Theistic evolution and Darwinian evolution are not at odds, but I voted for theistic evolution because it encompasses Darwinian evolution.
Darwin doesn’t try to prove or disprove the existence of God. Those are neo-darwinist who use evolution to try and disprove God. Its kinda stupid IMO.I was trying to convey an option meaning ‘God centered evolution’ and ‘no God centered evolution’…
It seems to me that Darwinian Evolution contains no god involved…
Agreed, these are much better title options. I voted theistic evolution because I assumed the OP meant these as options.Young earth creationism would clarify option 3 a lot.
Theistic Evolution
Atheistic Evolution
Young Earth Creationism
I’m not really sure what you mean, I really don’t see how the poll options are all opposed to Catholic doctrine, both theistic evolution and creationism are compatible with Catholic teaching. The poll omits Catholic doctrines. Therefore, the poll is opposed to the Catholic Church.![]()
May I gently point out that I was referring to the poll itself and not to individual options.I’m not really sure what you mean, I really don’t see how the poll options are all opposed to Catholic doctrine, both theistic evolution and creationism are compatible with Catholic teaching.![]()
I still really don’t see how the poll is opposed to Catholic doctrine. I am well aware of what the actual Catholic doctrine on this matter is, I just don’t see how the poll is opposed to that doctrine. The OP gave options in the poll which are compatible with Catholic doctrine, therefore the poll is not opposed, but is instead compatible with, Catholic doctrine. From post 13
The poll omits Catholic doctrines. Therefore, the poll is opposed to the Catholic Church.
May I gently point out that I was referring to the poll itself and not to individual options.
However, it should be pointed out that the Catholic Church has specific doctrines regarding human origin, human nature and the connection to the divinity of Jesus Christ which are not automatically contained in theistic explanations for human life.
A good example of the exclusion of Catholic teachings is the popular BioLogos website.
The poll, in itself, effectively eliminated the participation of those Catholics who have remained faithful to the Divine Revelation contained in the first three chapters of Genesis.
My simple suggestion is that people who are interested in what exactly the Catholic Church teaches regarding the human race should make the effort to read the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition,
paragraphs 355-421 plus the cross-references in the margins.
I do understand that many Catholics do not have proper knowledge of some of the basic doctrines of the Catholic Church. This is why the simplistic and non-informative general theistic approach has become popular.
Elimination is a form of opposition.I still really don’t see how the poll is opposed to Catholic doctrine. Theistic evolution is not opposed to Catholic doctrine. It was in fact supported by Blessed John Paul the Great. The poll omits Catholic doctrines. Therefore, the poll is opposed to the Catholic Church.![]()
I think you are trying to split way too many hairs here. I believe that the OP meant theistic evolution as in that supported by the Church.Elimination is a form of opposition.
For example. May I ask which option automatically contains the Catholic doctrines of monogenism, original sin, and the divinity of Jesus Christ?
Perhaps, people are not aware that there are compatible God-believing people who consider Jesus as a prophet among prophets if He is considered. That happens to be a current form of the Arian heresy.
How many Christian religions, which have the compatible faith in God, actually have the Real Presence of Jesus Christ, True God and True Man, in the Eucharist?
When one thinks of creationism, do the Seven Sacraments immediately pop into mind?
Of course, Genesis 1:1 is compatible with the Catholic doctrine expressed in the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed normally professed at the Sunday Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Does the Mass stop at this point?
The poll referred to the human race which is significantly different from the sun and moon. The human race is made in the image of God – at least that is what I learned.![]()
