Personally, I’m a bit of all three. I believe that God, being omniscient, was able to pick to precise moment to start the universe in such a manner that it developed exactly as he wanted it to.
That is theistic evolution, not all three.

The poll omits Catholic doctrines. Therefore, the poll is opposed to the Catholic Church.
the Catholic Church has not made any doctrinal statements on how the universe came into existence outside of the fact that it was out of nothing and that it is created by God.

Theistic evolution is not opposed to Catholic doctrine. It was in fact supported by Blessed John Paul the Great.
If you are referring to what I think you are referring to – may I respectfully suggest that people read the entire context, including the qualifications (plural intended) given by Blessed John Paul II who remained faithful to Divine Revelation in the first three chapters of Genesis.

May I respectfully suggest that people read Blessed John Paul II’s two documents in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition, pages xii - xvi and pages 1 - 6. Here one will discover that Blessed John Paul II not only promoted the existence of God as Creator, he also promoted in this universal catechism that the Catholic Church was founded by the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, Jesus Christ.

Unfortunately, there are some, not all, Catholics who have been mesmerized by those hoping to change Divine Revelation to comport with the scientific domain of the material/physical world. :o One example is the attempted merging of Catholic with the generic form of theistic.

My sincere apology for my strong remarks.

I do recognize the individuals who use the word theistic followed by a bold statement of belief in foundational Catholic doctrines.

In my humble opinion, a Catholic theistic position should have been included in the poll. There are people who are loyal to the doctrines of Catholicism.

it seems for you that the word theistic is misleading.

the Church has not said how creation happened, all it has declared that God is directly responsible for the existence of the cosmos and that it came out of nothing. The Church has never said how old the universe is if evolution is compatible with catholic teaching or not. As long as a scientific theory doesn’t claim that God didn’t created the universe it is not contrary to Catholic thought.

I think you are trying to split way too many hairs here. I believe that the OP meant theistic evolution as in that supported by the Church.
According to my initial research, the term “theistic” does not automatically include the Catholic Church. The exception I found is in post 24.

"I do recognize the individuals who use the word theistic followed by a bold statement of belief in foundational Catholic doctrines. " Please notice the point about a bold statement of belief in foundational doctrines.

As far as splitting hairs. The objection to splitting hairs when it comes to Divine Revelation is known off CAF as part of the downgrading of certain objectionable Catholic doctrines which flow from the first three chapters of Genesis and from Romans 5: 12-21.

I am loyal to the doctrines of Catholicism and to say otherwise is offensive.

Theistic evolution is compatible with Catholic doctrine. I do not deny that everything came into being through God and for His glory and by His power. Theistic evolution is simply the method that He used.

The word theistic is not misleading. Pagans have theistic worship.

what is behind theistic evolution isn’t some pagan form of worship or something similar.

it is simply a theory that tries to combine the idea that God created the universe and the theory of evolution. It simple says that God used evolution to bring about man and the earth and such. There is nothing contrary to Catholic teaching by holding to this point of view. I hold to it. I believe evolution is correct, and at the same time God is the unmoved mover, uncaused caused, etc.

:confused::confused::confused:

How could I possibly say that you are not loyal to the doctrines of Catholicism when you have not stated all the Catholic doctrines which flow not only from the first three chapters of Genesis but from the teachings of St. Paul, e.g., Romans 5: 12-21?

In any case, please accept my sincere apology…

I am loyal to all of the teachings of the Church including those from Genesis and the Apostles. There is nothing in theistic evolution that is against Church teaching. I think that you need to do some more reading and research before you go around accusing people of taking a stand against the Church. It is uninformed and highly offensive.
