Well what evidence of holding back science do you have other than the house arrest of Galileo who taught a false cosmology?

What is your evidence other than Galileo? If that is all you have then that isn’t much of a case that the Church held back progress.

I didn’t make any claim beyond Galileo. I stated the persecution of Galileo was the Church holding backing scientific progress. The Pope made his apology in 1992. Case closed.

Exactly what scientific progress was held back, may I ask? As has been noted, Gallileo’s teaching of heliocentrism was in fact false. How did Gallileo not presenting false scientific theory ‘hold back’ scientific progress?

Or do you just cling to the belief that one supposed example of ‘suppression’ equates to a global, eternal charge of an entire institution ‘holding back scientific progress’ for all time?

So let me ask you. It was the Church which not only instituted hospitals (which led to the foundations of great scientific progress) but universities (ditto). And that wasn’t ‘one’ example, but an example of hundreds, thousands, even millions of these places over time to this day.

So to put in perspective, you are presenting the ‘suppression’ of one person’s actual incorrect scientific theorizing as a global, eternal indictment of the Church’s ‘holding back scientific progress’

but you are ignoring the Church’s institution, foundation, establishment and fostering which led to some 1000 years to this date of literally millions of institutions through which scientific progress was fostered and nourished.

That, my friend, exposes not only your ignorance but your bias.
