Karl Rahner, The Church and the Sacraments, Quaestiones disputae 9 (New York: Herder & Herder, 1963). Rahner here explores the idea of the Church as the primordial sacrament.

Karl Rahner, Theological Investigations, Vol. 4: More Recent Writings (New York: Crossroad, 1966). See his essay “The Theology of the Symbol,” which shatters the old philosophic deadlock opposing the symbolic and the real.

Edward Schillebeeckx, Christ the Sacrament of the Encounter with God, trans. Paul Barrett (New York: Sheed & Ward, 1963). One of the breakthrough theological texts influencing Vatican II.

Herbert Vorgrimler. Sacramental Theology. Collegeville: Liturgical Press, 1992. Excellent explanation of both traditional and contemporary theological studies of the sacraments.

You might get better answers if you post specifically what about shillebeeckx’s view you are confused about.

People are better able to answer specific questions than general ones.

I agree with TrueLight. Now you have pinned it down to problems with Edward Shillebeeckx please tell us what in particular you are having difficulty understanding otherwise how can anyone respond to a vague generalisation.
