Theology of the body: book recommendation please

**I know there are several books that are good for “beginners”… what is your favorite?

I checked out Theology of the Body for Beginners from the library last summer. I read it in hopes that i would be able to explain WHY we believe what we believe in that area to my 2 boys who are fast approaching the age when they need to know and easy answers aren’t going to satisfy them. I finished, still feeling like a beginner. Like I might need Theology of the Body for Big Idiots or something. But maybe I am just dense…

I found The Good News about Sex and Marriage for $1.50 on ebay, and I hoping for better results there - something a little more user friendly.

My limited experience…

I think this is what you are looking for…go down and check the reviews. It’s what I have on my wishlist to help when Lily gets to that age of “questions”😃
 
Christopher West has Theology of the Body for Beginners as well a Theology of the Body Explained… which one is “better” and why does he have 2?

Theology of the Body Explained is my favorite of the two. It really is for readers though. TOBE is as big as, and could probably be described as a paraphrase of Pope John Paul II’s Man and Woman He Created Them. Christopher West goes through all of the Pope’s talks on TOB one by one. Both his and the Pope’s works can be quite daunting for someone who wants to learn TOB but isn’t big into reading a 500 page book.

TOB for Beginners, and I think there is an Intro to TOB, are written in a brief way that someone can be introduced to the concepts without being overwhelmed by the prose.

But for me, the bigger, the better. 😉 I don’t prefer the short ones. I did read one on the plane this summer on the way to give a TOB talk. It was a nice refresher.

If someone wants to learn the WHYS behind Catholic teachings on marriage, sex, and chastity, a quick easy read is Good News for Sex and Marriage.

Now, I am not a married person. I am a single celibate Catholic. I find much meaning and significance and purpose in my personal celibacy from reading and studying TOB.

Christopher West’s TOB Explained, and PJP2’s MAWHCT, will give a reader a comprehensive catechesis of all of Catholic Sacramental theology.

After he had written TOB Explained, he was asked to write a simplified version, so that more people would be exposed to it. Lots of people were interested in learning TOB, but not interested in reading 500 pages. There are other authors out there who have done similar books.
