So Miseri,

What is it specifically that you don’t like about the Theology of the Body?

For any who are interested, Christopher West will be doing an 8 hour workshop entitled, “Created & Redeemed,” a study on Love, Sex and the Meaning of Life, based on the Theology of the Body. This workshop will take place at Saint Brigid Catholic Church 3400 Old Alabama Road Alpharetta, GA 30022 on September 10th and 11th, 2004.

BTW, if you haven’t read Theology of the Body Explained, I highly recommend it. I learned all the “connections” to different parts of our faith that I was slightly confused about.

misericordie,

such a view of Aquinas would seem to make him infallible, which he certainly is not. Towards the end of his life, Aquinas had a vision while celebrating Mass and afterward realized that his philosophy was merely “straw” - not something you’d say of something directly influenced by Christ, now is it? Also there are many outright falsehoods in Aquinas’ metaphysics, due to the fact that they are Aristotelian (no atoms, no gravity, earth is the center of the universe, though that is actually Ptolemy, etc, ect) Plus if Aquinas was inspired, what about all the other Catholic philosophers like Augustine, Molina, and the many of the Church Fathers? Were they not inspired also, only Aquinas was?

Thank you so much for making this Poll and thread:) I lost track of it after June :o
I hope that the discussion will be more positive from here on out and focus more of the Graces that come from praticing what and how the is Church teaching this theology.
I think our cultures desprately need to learn more about this work and not continue to seperate the unitive from the procrative. NFP has been a wonderful way for me and my husband to learn this teaching, though not everyone needs to take this route. Happily NFP lead us to acknowledge God’s Plan for our family and we have a little one due in October:) Christopher West and Jason Evert have some wonderful book’s humbly appling the Pope’s teachings.
My view of my sexuality is continuously being healled becuase of what I have learned about the Churches Teaching and how it helps me bring God more initmately into my life and marriage ❤️
:blessyou:
On your Journeys

I would just like to point out, that while Saint Thomas Aquinas is considered to be the ‘Angelic Doctor’, JP II is rightly considered to be the ‘Pope of the family’. Just a thought.

If you should happen to read Christopher’s West’s explanation of Theology of the Body, it helps to understand Humane Vitae. Just deep stuff for catholics in understanding why “contraception” in any form is “intrinsically evil” which is so true. Just look at the fruits of contraception, and compare that to the fruits of NFP or staying with the natural law, or the same as following church teaching. Also, it is helpful to also read Dr. Janet Smith’s “Contraception why Not?” or listen to it on tape. Either way, it does help to logically understand the church’s teaching on Humane Vitae.

I have only heard of this last Saturday from a friend. He actually wants us and few other friends to go through an 8 week course about the Theology of the Body. He’s actually the Director of Religious ed at a nearby parish and he willing to “share the wealth”.

I’ve looked at the links and done some Googling, but I’m still not clear on what the Theology of the Body is or means. A lot of the “explanations” seem to be in that same sort of language encyclicals are translated into, which I often find impenetrable.

You could have added another category – I* am currently studying the Theology of the Body*. 🙂

I’ve read TOTB for Beginners and now I’m reading TOTB Explained and have joined a weekly study group for it. Tomorrow I’ll probably go and pick up the book with the actual JPII texts in it.

I love this teaching. The depth of it blows my mind. It’s life-changing stuff.

Seeker, pick up Theology of the Body for Beginners by Christopher West. It is written in clear laymen’s language. His other book is TOTB Explained and it is much more dense, but the Beginners book gives you a really good grasp of the basic concepts so you can wade into the deeper end of the pool.

misericordie:
Aquinas however was influenced by God or inspired by the Holy Trinity= Father, Son, and Holy Spirit which yes, includes Jesus. So, yes, it was Jesus in who taught and spoke through the mouth of Aquinas in Aquinas’ theology and philosophy. After all, wisdom comes from God=The Holy Trinity.
That’s funny, because I would think that we are supposed to take it as a given that our Pope is also inspired and influenced by the Holy Spirit. After all, he is the Holy See.

You still haven’t told us if you’ve actually read any of the Theology of the Body.

**Wow, I just had one of the most amazing experiences of my entire life.**Yesterday I heard Christopher West give a 6 hour talk on the Theology of the Body. He spoke at our parish. I have heard many great speakers (including Fr. Corapi) but no one even comes close to Christopher West speaking on the Theology of the Body!

Previously, I have heard him talk on the radio a few times and had read how highly everyone talks about Christopher West on Catholic.com Forums. I went into the talk knowing it would probably be outstanding and when it was over I realized I had never learned so much material before in 6 hours of my life. The talk was INCREDIBLE!!

I want to let everyone know you must see him and as soon as possible. I will later post some materials you can get regarding his talks on the Theology of the Body.

Has anyone one else been to see him talk in person? If so, what did you think of him?

Thank you for reminding me, Christopher West will be coming to my town very soon:) Too bad we won’t get Father Corapi too.
I have a friend who is planning on getting a tattoo… and I hoping I will be able to give a heartfelt explanation of why she shouldn’t do it. Hopefully God’s timing will provide the opportunity:) I am afraid the couple contracepting and I just know this idea is a symtom of how it is injuring their the image they have of their bodies. Please pray for healling and a change in heart.

Gave DH the book last year for Christmas ( by JPII).
Have flipped through many times.
