<I read an article from The Remnant that seemed to be blasting JPII’s ‘theology of the body’ and one of its chief proponents, Christopher West. What do people on this TradCath forum think?>
I accept Vatican II so I can’t be labeled traditionalitst, although I think I’m very traditional in most respects.
I think Theology of the Body is a great pedagogical development in evangelizing about sexual ethics in the Church.
In a nutshell, TOB sees human sexuality as positive and part of the divine plan of complete mutual self giving.
I think what upsets the Trads is that JPII uses a personalist, quasi mystical approach in explaining Catholic sexual ethics. He takes his cues from St. John of the Cross.
If they don’t prefer that, b/c it’s not a Thomist approach, that’s fine.
But, to question the orthodoxy of the teaching on that basis I think is wrong.
