I am going to buy a book this weekend on TOB. Which book should I get? I hear West is good…but for some unknown and completely irrational reason, I have this very negative view of the guy. Is his stuff the best for this topic?

I don’t care for his stuff either.

Some books I have that are not by him are:

“Crossing the Threshold of Love” by Mary Shivanandan
and
“The Splendor of Love” by Walter J. Schu

I have not read them in their entirety but so far they seem really good.

As any author can, West puts his unique twist on things. However, it is my understanding that he is reasonable true to the speeches that he interprets. The benefit of his work, instead of the actual text of the Wednesday audiences, so I’m told, is that the material is presented in less academic terms. I have the actual text on my wish list.

Take a look at Good News about Sex and Marriage by Christopher West.

My wife has read several of his books and enjoyed them all.

Where do you think your negative view comes from?

For me at least it is from his saying what is OK and not OK to do as a married couple are based off an interpretation of Theology of the Body rather than from a concise understanding of Church teaching as a whole along with the Theology of the Body on the same topics.

Have you found anything he says that contradicts Church teaching?
