What are some good resources that I can connect my Protestant boyfriend with who has trouble understanding Theology of the Body? When we sit down and talk about getting married in the near future, I know he is on board with USING NFP, but does not understand why we can’t be sexually physical in anyway before marriage. I am not so good at explaining it in a convincing way.

Books probably aren’t the best things for him right now…maybe some articles or websites?
I am going to refer him to Christopher West, but does anyone know of some articles that are easy for Protestants to understand. Even if it is just a brief introduction to TOB.

As a side note, anyone near the Indianapolis area know of GOOD (true to teaching) Catholic therapists who specialize in pre-marital counseling? My boyfriend and I are looking to see one. I would see the priest at my parish, but I do not know him well since I am back and forth from home and school throughout the year.

Thank you!

Jason and Crystallina Evert do a really nice job for Theology of the Body for Teens. Although they primarily do work for teens, the information is still good for anyone and may be easier for your boyfriend to understand if he is just starting out with the Church’s teaching on sexual morality. Look them up!!

May God bless you and sanctify your relationship always! 🙂

What does ‘in the near future’ mean? Pre-Can counseling lasts about 6 months prior to the marriage sacrament. The Everts have CDs on Theology of the Body that would be excellent for your and your potential husband to view together. If you are not able to explain the reason for chastity, you should be reading up on this subject yourself so you are better able to explain and be a good influence yourself. May God bless you and keep you on the path to holiness. The pressure to ‘show your love’ by participating in premarital sex will continue to build, so don’t delay on getting some help and meanwhile, do not spend time alone with your intended in isolated situations.
