I hardly see the DC get used in theological/apologetical discussions. Does anyone know of any books that use the DC books? Thanks and God bless.

Hello,

Well I hardly think a detailed discussion on Purgatory would be complete without mention of 2 Maccabees 12:38-46.

There is also the importance of purity and sanctity of marriage in the book of Tobit.

That is because it is hard to win any points by quoting from something that Protestants won’t recognize as inspired scripture.

I know. This is simply for my own curiousity. I thought it odd that except for the one Maccabee quote I never really heard much quoted from the DC books.

I have used Wis 15:11, Sir 17:1-7, Sir 23:19-20, and 2 Macc 6:30 in discussions with Jehovah’s Witnesses. If you’re famailiar with their teachings, you’ll understand why I use these verses. When they say (almost yelling), “That’s from the apocrapha”, I lead them into a discussion of whether their Governing Body has the authority to decide what goes in the Bible. And then, whether the Governing Body has the authority to decide anything else when it comes to scripture, if I can get that far before they squirm out of the topic.
