Hi all –

It’s my time to start looking at colleges, and I need a little help. I want to major in theology, and I’d like to know if anyone knows of any good schools that have a strong theology department. I’m looking for an academically solid school (I’ve got the grades to get in) as I’d like to keep going with graduate school/etc and eventually be a professor of theology.

So, any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Hi Hyfrydol (nice Welsh name by the way) 👍

What country are you residing in, and are you planning on attending colleges in your residential country or are you planning on studying over seas?

If you are in the U.K the Franciscan International Study Center in Canterbury offer religious courses such as a MA in theology (Franciscan studies) or a BA in theology; their web addresss is www.franciscans.ac.uk

I’m in the US, Pennsylvania specifically, but I wouldn’t be against studying overseas (and my parents are okay with that idea, too), although it would have to be an English-speaking country because my German is marginal at best…

Thanks for the link!

God bless!

Franciscan University at Steubenville, in OH would be a good choice.

You also will want to know that it is positive to get a strong, positive, Catholic theological education even at schools where some dissenters may be found in the department. I teach at a Jesuit school; there are some wackos in the department – but there are also some fine, orthodox, extremely quality professors.

PM me if I can be of assistance.

Blessings,

i want to throw notre dame out there… i’m a freshman here.

it’s great academically, and while our theo department isn’t the most orthodox, we have a very strong philosophy department and i know of many people who double major in philosophy and theology. there are great profs in many arts and letters departments to be found here, though…

there are great traditions here (need i mention football?), and i really feel you can’t beat the academics at any other truly Catholic school… and in the next few years with father jenkins’ presidency there should be more of a movement towards theological orthodoxy. (heck, the man mentioned “ex corde ecclesiae” in his inaugural address ;o)

just my two cents!

I second Belmont Abbey…I’ve sent my application in there already (I need to get those transcripts in…). I plan to double major in Theology and Political Science and then go to CUA to enter the dual degree program at their law school–Canon law and Criminal law. CUA (Catholic U of America) is another good school from what I hear.
