I tried light n life, but the shipping was brutal. Amazon ships through them I believe.
The shipping from Amazon is from their market vendors and should only be an additional $3.99. But, since you’re in Canada, it may work differently. You may have trouble finding a cheaper copy, though. Guess it depends on how much you want it and how much you’re willing to pay for it.

Sometimes Orthodox churches or monasteries have bookstores, or bookstands. You may want to check around to see if any near you has a copy.

Check out Archbp. Joseph Raya and Catherine Doherty. Here’s a link for Archbp. Raya’s books–madonnahouse.org/publications/raya/index.html. From there you can explore the rest of the books offered by Madonna House, including Catherine Doherty’s. I’d recommend any and all of them! He (Raya), and they, are Eastern Catholic.

But I have read a number of your posts, and perhaps in a rather limited way, do understand where your sympathies lie
No you don’t.
I don’t have the work you quoted from, so I don’t know the full context of the statements of his that you quoted.
I could post the remainder of it…but it would probably upset you.

Are there any other post-Schism saints that you would recommend?

Excellent, thanks for the links!👍 This will make it easier. Per chance, do you read any of the writings of any Catholic saints? I’ve got some good recommendations of my own. 😉

WHOA! You weren’t kidding - that is one pricey book!:bigyikes:

And others would agree with him. 🤷
Very true. The point is, just because we may find one or two things with which we disagree in the writings of any saint, East or West, doesn’t mean we should just disregard everything they wrote. Heck, I don’t always agree with the likes of Thomas Aquinas and Bonaventure as well, at least when it comes to their views on the Byzantine East (which were far from positive). 😃

I was Latin Catholic for 38 years and I read Latin post schism saints. With all due respect, I was not very much moved by these writings (especially St Thomas Aquinas). It did not speak to my heart like the Eastern Fathers, Saints, and Elders.

But that’s just me.

Ah ok, no worries. I’m just all about the sharing of good writings 🙂
Aquinas is quite dry at times, yes. There is something about Eastern Christianity that speaks to the heart for sure - I was absolutely moved by The Way of a Pilgrim, and it remains one of my favorite books of all time.
As for works that speak to my heart in the Catholic tradition (post-schism), I really love the writings of Archbishop Fulton Sheen, St. Francis de Sales, and though she is not a saint, I love Simone Weil’s book Gravity and Grace. The Little Flowers of St. Francis is also one of my favorite works.

I was going to mention, I’ve seen some of the books you mentioned online before. I’m actually quite intrigued by Maria Skobtstova - it seems she had a very similar martyrdom to St. Maximilian Kolbe, who is one of my favorite saints of all time.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me brother, it is most enjoyable. 👍

St. Bonaventure? Really…which writings of his deal with the East-Wesy schism? Do you have a link to any? I’m curious as to what he says.

I’ve never found Aquinas particularly moving either. I’ve really tried to get into his writings, but just never could. What I’ve found quite moving from Aquinas are his prayers and hymns. After reading those I can see why the Church considers him a great mystic.

St. Bonaventure is by far my preference among the scholastic theologians. What I’ve read of his writings very closely approaches the spirit that I sense in the Eastern Fathers, Saints, and Elders. Perhaps that is why he is referred to as the “Seraphic Doctor.” Sadly he did not have a very high opinion of the East. Basically he thought of the East as backward and uneducated. Obviously I disagree. 😛

I’ve found the writings of St. John of the Cross to be an amazing accompaniment to the writings of the early Eastern and Desert Fathers. Perhaps this is because he himself studied them very closely. Things that I found somewhat ambiguous in the Eastern Fathers, St. John spells out with a great deal of clarity.

Again, just my opinion here. Take it or leave it. 😃
