S’pradznikom!
Part of my day was here. Well, actually I was facing Father and up above the creek on the left. Someone in the choir must have taken this picture. It rained for two days before Theophany and was threatening to rain on the Feast, but the rain held off and when we got to the creek the sun actually did come out for most of the time at the creek. 🙂

I hope you all had as wonderful a feast as we did. 👍 Post some photos. 🙂

When You, O Lord were baptized in the Jordan
The worship of the Trinity was made manifest
For the voice of the Father bore witness to You
And called You His beloved Son.
And the Spirit, in the form of a dove,
Confirmed the truthfulness of His word.
O Christ, our God, You have revealed Yourself
And have enlightened the world, glory to You!

What is Theopany

or is it the same as Epiphany?

We or at least I had a really good feast day and a good sermon etc…

Theophany celebrates Christ’s baptism in the Jordan River and all the persons of Trinity manifesting (can’t think of the right word ;)) themselves at the same time.

I think you said it just right - regardless of the word you can’t recall 🙂

thank you. I learned something new today:thumbsup:

So the Eastern feast of the Theophany is the equivalent of next Sunday’s feast in the Latin Church - the feast of the baptism of the Lord. I thought that the feast of the Epiphany was also celebrated in the East? Or is it part of Christmas proper? In the Roman Rite, the Epiphany celebrates the coming of the Magi as representatives of the Gentile Nations recognizing and adoring the Jewish Messiah whose coming was celebrated at Christmas.

The Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord was created for the Latin Church in 1955, it is not traditional.

The earliest feast of Epiphany (above-manifestation) or Theophany (God-manifestation) commemorated the four manifestations from the Gospels:
  • the Nativity of Our Lord,
  • the adoration of Our Lord by the Magi,
  • the baptism of Our Lord in the Jordan, and
  • the wedding at Cana.
The Byzantine Great Compline for the feast of the Nativity includes the visit of the Persian Kings. The Byzantine Wedding of Cana is in the Gospel after Pascha.
