Theoretical Question- Annulment and then remarriage

Hello.
I’ve been reading the forums for months and have often noticed that there are a multitude of questions about annuments and remarriage. My theoretical question is, if someone gets married, then receives an annulment, then their former husband or wife dies, can they remarry?

One would need to seek an annulment to remarry in the Church only if one’s former spouse was still alive (otherwise there is no issue). Given that, once an annulment has been granted the subsequent death of the former spouse has no effect on the surviving spouse’s ability to remarry.

the actual sequence of events is civil divorce, then if investigation by church marriage tribunal determines marriage was not validly contracted, a decree of nullity is issued, then both parties are free to marry (assuming no other impediments, or the barrier to validity in the original marriage has been removed or overcome). If they get an anullment it means they were never married, and don’t have to wait for ex to die.
