Please check out Jack Figel’s post yesterday in Byzcath re Magazine.Theosis

I recently mentioned it in another thread here.

All of us who were at ENCOUNTER 2012 got a free sample copy. The content is very rich, with contributions from Catholic and Orthodox writers. It’s the same size as the *Magnificat *magazine popular in the Latin Church.

I think we have at least a couple of people here who were at ENCOUNTER 2012. Maybe you can add your thoughts about the Theosis Magazine. I do hope we can help this endeavor fly.

I am a subscriber and I like it very much!

However, it’s not really the same as Magnificat because it doesn’t have the Morning and Evening prayers from the Office (which would be very helpful) - basically each daily entry tells about the saint(s) of the day; the Troparion(s) and Kontakion(s) of the day; the liturgical texts for the day.

It’s been very helpful at weekday Liturgies sometimes when I forgot to print out my music & need to get the Troparion & Kontakion on the fly! 👍

That is made available as a separate service offering from ECP: the Byzantine Daily Office (see pg 2)

Personally, I think Theosis is great advancement in the availability of solidly Eastern Catholic thought and perspective.

I was actually a bit surprised by the amount of space devoted to the monthly Menaion, but its nice to have readily available from a trusted source. Again, I don’t think the intent was to create an Eastern Catholic version of Magnificat, but perhaps someone closer to ECP might be able to comment.

I have been subscibed to “Theosis” since the first edition. I have found the articles to be excellent and have found the Menaion section to be very helpful in my daily prayer life. I especially like the variety and quality of the writers that have appeared in the magazine.
I would strongly encourage anyone who is interested in the Christian East to subscribe. It is well worth the cost.

Seeing that I do daily prayer with my community I never really saw the Byzantine Daily Office as something I could use.

But now this.

We will see how Christmas goes. This is now at the top of my list for must haves.

Thanks you all for posting this and commenting on it.

Yes, I subscribed to it for a while. The problem (for me! may not be a problem for anyone else in the universe! 😃 ) is that it’s delivered electronically, by email, in PDF format and it’s just difficult for me to pray while reading an electronic device.

I know, I’m old!

I receive the print edition. Both versions are available.
