There I go hearing voices again

Thanks for the info Barbara Therese. I have started with a counselor but I didn’t tell him about the thoughts. I’ve had a few more, once I was reading some stuff online and the word clericalism popped into my head, a word I have never used ever, I had to look it up. It totally applied to my feelings about what I was reading. I won’t get into it though. Also it called me an NTC01, which I assumed stood for New Testament Christian 1st? Like medical code almost. It was literally spelled out like that, N-T-C-0-1. There have been some other things but they escape me at the moment… I’ve been wearing my St. Benedict… I say the rosary every night now. No demon fights lately… Still truckin on the plans for RCIA in Sept.
Excellent that you have a counsellor, but until you share the thoughts with him/her - are they fully in the picture? And if not, then is the advice and counselling they give spot on? I would certainly tend to think it is not. Certainly if you are hearing a voice or voices that are ‘religious’ in some way, then seek out a spiritual director as well and be very honest and open. The same with your counsellor. The thing about having a counsellor of some kind and/or spiritual director of some kind is precisely the ‘honesty and openness’ factor of the one being counselled in some way…else they are not fully in the picture and what they communicate to you does not have all the facts and in all possibility (unless they suspect there is something you are not telling them) they are presuming they do have all the facts in considering the advice etc. passed on to you.

To be very honest, I would be entirely and absolutely suspect all the way of what you are hearing in this voice or voices. In fact, were it me - I would be making an appointment with my psychiatrist. Voices can be an indication of quite serious mental disorder and I would be wanting to check out with an expert my mental stability. If what you hear is from Heaven, not one thing can be lost by seeking out a medical opinion. The virtues of prudence and wisdom ask this I think…as well as common sense which is the guide of all the virtues (St. Albert)

Hearing a voice need not necessarily be an indication of serious mental disorder I dont think, nor of any sort of supernatural experience…our imaginations are very powerful indeed and voices etc. could I suppose proceed from imagination. But were it me, all the above would prompt me to seek out a medical opinion and perhaps spiritual advice and be guided by both. I would not diagnose myself and settle as for real my own opinion.

God’s blessings and my regards…Barb:)

Just a thought–I don’t know if you are taking any medications, but sometimes they can cause what is called “auditory hallucinations” (if that is what you are experiencing). If you are taking any meds check with your doctor to see if any of them can be known to cause this.
