Why would I do that? To please you? You are not God. I will obey God rather than men.

Before you continue to call me friend, retract your libel. Now I have informed you twice.

And you still haven’t answered my question.
No status change means no answer. I will call you friend whatever happens and I mean it, what was you purpose of you initial post, because it sounds like you were attempting to say that athiests are the same as Catholics. I dont think so.

I have read posts from both of you two on other threads… And you both seem very articulate and faithful to our Lord.

I think for some reason both of you started mis-understanding what the other was saying and it kind of snow balled.

Anyway I am not trying to get in the middle of anything but I think we should remember what Christ taught us: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God."

As for saying God’s name is Love, that makes me a little uncomfortable… I know God is love along with other attributes but using that for his name 🤷

Thanks, you took so long to get here.

Question 37. The name of the Holy Ghost–Love

Article 1. Whether “Love” is the proper name of the Holy Ghost?

You may read Saint Thomas at the link.

Darryl B initially came at me with hostility, because he misread my intent. He has not apologized, nor has he retracted his libel. I for my part did apologize to him, and my conscience is clear, both in my treatment of him and my exposition of Catholic Doctrine. If you want to be a peacemaker, that is great. Maybe you can get Darryl to see reason. I don’t need his spiritual direction of me, nor his judgment of me, and as far as I am concerned he needs to either produce a quote from me saying what he claims I said, as opposed to his own wrong interpretation of what I said, or else retract his statement that I said it. I see no reason I should just let this go. It is difficult enough to get my actual ideas across, without the additional burden of having to explain that I did not ever say what someone, particularly someone who claims to be a fellow-Christian, falsely claims I said. Differences of opinion are expected on a public forum. Lying about what another person said, is simply unacceptable behavior, and I see no reason to tolerate it.

I will make a categorical statement that Darryl and you and anyone is free to disagree with, to your heart’s content: an atheist who loves will be saved, while a Catholic or a Christian who does not love will be condemned. That is the solemn truth, and the simplicity of “God is Love.” Feel free to disagree. But DO NOT claim that I said Catholicism and Atheism are the same thing. I advanced no such thesis.

I’m sorry I am never hostile, that is you making that up as you go along.

I will even go further. I will give you more to shock you, that you can disagree with all you like, but it won’t make a difference to me.

Darryl wrote, “if you valued God so highly. . .”

Forget it. I will throw “God” under the bus, for the sake of Love. It is more important to love than it is to believe in God. And I am a faithful Roman Catholic.

Get your priorities straight! These are dire times, and dire times call for dire measures. Religious differences don’t amount to a hill of beans, compared to the Key and Central Importance of Love. And I am not saying that all religions are the same. All religions are not the same. Catholicism alone is the fullness of truth, all other religions are partially true at best. But priorities are priorities. If you think God is more important than Love, I am here to inform you in no uncertain terms that God disagrees with that priority. God will judge each and every soul on the basis, not of its faith, but of its works. Love, is all that matters. God is Love. So what do you suppose is the basis of that Judgement?

I didn’t make it up.

I read the link you posted earlier, It just doesn’t sit well with me (maybe I am in need of more spiritual growth before I will call God Love)

For now I am going to stick with more traditional names for God… Like Father which is what Christ himself told us to address him as while teaching us to pray. (Even though you are referring to the Holy Spirit, who is the love between the Father and the Son)

I read the whole thread and it does look like Darryl missed what you were trying to say… You did offer a heart felt apology and I would have a clear conscience if I were you. Like I said though I do not want to get in the middle of any argument between you two… I just think you are both good Christians and it’s a shame to see you argue.

I’m sorry I am never hostile, that is you making that up as you go along.
This is you, coming at me, confronting me with your hostility:
Love is not a name of God. But you are most welcome to repeat the word love over and over to fill that void in your heart where God should be.
You told me I have a void in my heart where God should be.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

You also publicly libeled me, here:
I disagree, if you valued God so highly you would not attempt to **claim athiests and every other religion were the same. That you did my friend. **And that I disagree with. You cannot ask me if I am Catholic or not if your own religion is simply Love, ie you haven’t even claimed that yourself.
That is unacceptable. I demand a retraction. I’m serious.

I agree, brian, and I am perfectly willing to forgive and forget. But the ball’s in his court at this point.

That’s good your willing to move on, I guess it is up to him now…

Anyway back to the topic. I looked up what the CC uses for names for the Holy Spirit and this is what I found:

II. THE NAME, TITLES, AND SYMBOLS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

The proper name of the Holy Spirit

691 “Holy Spirit” is the proper name of the one whom we adore and glorify with the Father and the Son. The Church has received this name from the Lord and professes it in the Baptism of her new children.16

The term “Spirit” translates the Hebrew word ruah, which, in its primary sense, means breath, air, wind. Jesus indeed uses the sensory image of the wind to suggest to Nicodemus the transcendent newness of him who is personally God’s breath, the divine Spirit.17 On the other hand, “Spirit” and “Holy” are divine attributes common to the three divine persons. By joining the two terms, Scripture, liturgy, and theological language designate the inexpressible person of the Holy Spirit, without any possible equivocation with other uses of the terms “spirit” and “holy.”

It doesn’t say we can not call the Holy Spirit “Love” but it does not make it mandatory for our faith since it was not listed in the catechism

Almost forgot to add this part:

Titles of the Holy Spirit

692 When he proclaims and promises the coming of the Holy Spirit, Jesus calls him the “Paraclete,” literally, “he who is called to one’s side,” ad-vocatus.18 “Paraclete” is commonly translated by “consoler,” and Jesus is the first consoler.19 The Lord also called the Holy Spirit "the Spirit of truth."20

693 Besides the proper name of “Holy Spirit,” which is most frequently used in the Acts of the Apostles and in the Epistles, we also find in St. Paul the titles: the Spirit of the promise,21 the Spirit of adoption,22 the Spirit of Christ,23 the Spirit of the Lord,24 and the Spirit of God25 - and, in St. Peter, the Spirit of glory.26

I know, I wasn’t saying you have to call the Holy Spirit “Love.”

Nonetheless, you might try it sometime, just to see how it feels. Just raise your mind and your heart to your God and say, “O Love!” Say, “my Love, how I love Thee!”

Sometimes when I am about to eat something I say a very quick grace, like this: “Thank you, Love!”

And I, for my part, thank you, brian, for your peace-making words. Peace!

Ok that makes sense…

Something along the lines of My God, My Love… That seems a lot less foreign to me:)

That wasn’t a retraction, Darryl.
I’m very sad to see the back and forth going on here…Certainly indicates a need for more Agape…
If I may offer…
One who is willing to “forgive and forget” does not need a retraction. They simply do it regardless of what the other person does. So my suggestion is to simply drop the matter and move on.

Peace - - And I do mean Peace

👍 Blessed are the peacemakers…

I prefer to call God “good”. Love is good. So is justice, mercy, and truth, etcetera.

It’s pretty simple, James. No retraction means no acknowledgment that there was any libel, and, there was. I’m not holding a grudge, but most people would consider it rude and condescending to offer a person forgiveness for what they are not sorry for.

All I am doing is pointing out the libel. I could report him for violating forum rules, but I’m not. I’m hoping he will recognize the truth and act accordingly. I’m not losing any sleep over this, either. But since you did bring up Agape, I will simply point out that it is uncharitable to see someone sin and fail to admonish them. I am not offended so much as God is. I really couldn’t care less, but for Darryl’s own benefit, he should retract his false statement about me.
