"There is nothing new under the sun"

Hello to everyone. Thank you very much for your warm welcome. Today I want to write about a biblical topic. In Spanish, it is known the saying “no hay nada nuevo bajo el sol”, it seems to me that in English would be “There is nothing new under the sun” which in fact is in the Bible, in Eclesiastes.
I read that it is related with history , that there is a continuous return, as a cycle. I am interested in knowing your opinions.
 
Perhaps in relation to people but artificial intelligence is certainly new and will have profound changes
 
I always took this verse to mean that although times change, and inventions, human nature stays the same.

We still want and need thing, we crave love and acceptance, and we’re still weak enough to sometimes choose sinful means of getting our wants and needs met.

AI won’t change that…
 
In the spiritual rather than literal sense of the verse, it may be a foreshadowing of what will (and has) come through the revelation of Jesus Christ:

From CCC 50:

…Through an utterly free decision, God has revealed himself and given himself to man. This he does by revealing the mystery, his plan of loving goodness, formed from all eternity in Christ, for the benefit of all men. God has fully revealed this plan by sending us his beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.

Afterwards, in this spiritual sense there is nothing new under the sun.

What it potentially changes is the need to work to get the essentials of life (food, water, heat etc). Robots have only ever made man more productive, instead of being productive themselves… until now
 
Chickens lay eggs, and they have their own reasons for doing it. AI are a sort of livestock mechanism. but they don’t produce things “for themselves,” even as much as chickens do.

It states a principle, as true then as it is today. As much as we can become impressed with things, material possessions; Solomon owned the cattle on a thousand hills, had 700 concubines, etc, as well as power, wealth, status, etc, it’s all vanity, all empty and futile, all worthless in the end.

And we only fool ourselves, as each new generation probably does, if we think we’re any different now, in the “modern” world. Our technology, our advancements, change nothing in regards to this principle. ‘Vanity of vanities, everything is vanity…there’s nothing new under the sun’. Man was made for more than anything this world can offer.-there’s no ultimate or lasting satisfaction to be found here.

There really isn’t.

The creation has happened.

But it should be noted that this whole thing is a statement on others saying things, and how things are different with God.
 
Maybe generically one could argue this but on a personal level, oh yes, there is so many new things under the sun for me. Each discovery in faith is new for me and I delight in some of God’s blessings - some may be little things but His loving touch on my life is so special and new. Even rediscovering something I had forgotten is sort of new. or rather it feels new. Without the newness of faith discoveries or enjoying a unique sunrise created by God, life would be pretty grey and boring. Even if 50 billion people seemed to have the same experience before me, it would still be new for me.

That is just how I see it, and yes, if I discover someone seems to have a similar blessing, it is still new and unique for me - even if I am rejoicing in someone elses blessing. God only made one of me, so there should always be a sense of newness or uniqueness.
