I had it bookmarked myself. I know the version of which you speak. Wonder why. I thought it was in the public domain. It used to be available here but it’s not available anymore: digital.library.cornell.edu/cgi-bin/etext/bie-idx?type=header&bible=Rheims%20Douai
Was it the original English translation — difficult to understand?I had it bookmarked myself. I know the version of which you speak. Wonder why. I thought it was in the public domain.
The one with the "u"s instead of the "v"s was what I remember. There were other things that made it difficult to read. It was definitely older English. Was it the real old version, difficult to understand?
That sounds like the one I saw and put back because of the difficulty. It must be one of the earlier translations from the late 1500’s or early 1600’s. I tried finding the text online but came up empty. The one with the "u"s instead of the "v"s was what I remember. There were other things that made it difficult to read. Indeed, I thought it was a good discovery. I wanted to save it as a reference (to show how the English language changes), but it’s too late. I’ll keep looking, even if it’s for one or two pages of Genesis. That sounds like the one I saw and put back because of the difficulty. Thanks Innocent. That is like the earlier Bible I had seen. Here is the 1582 Rheims New Testament, (before the Challoner revisions).
That looks like it. Good find, not to mention very scholarly search technique. Here is the 1582 Rheims New Testament, (before the Challoner revisions).
Also good find. Here is a version of the 1610(-1611) Douai and the 1582 Rheims:
