The Universal Catechism says…that Masturbation is a sin against the 6th commandment and

2352 By masturbation is to be understood the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure. "Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action."138 “The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose.” For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of "the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved."139

There are those that want some information on Masturbation…I have posted this observation.

You believe that sitting in a rocking chair looking back at your years of masturbation you would believe that you were less sinful

than

sitting in a rocking chair looking back at your years of fornication for reasons you describe.

Look at it this way, anyone looking back at their years of masturbation sitting in a rocking chair should realize that they have poor self image, inability to relate to other people, are selfish, are immature, are devious, are secretive and live double lives

as opposed to

Fornicators, who while sinning, have the ability to relate to other people and share their sin in public by sinning with the other people, appear to be less devious, have a dysfunctional but better structured self image, are somewhat selfish, may be immature and less secretive and may lead double lives.

So while you sit and imagine all the times you masturbate, think of how devious it is, secretive it is, and the grin on your face is not seen by the world, and you cannot share any of that supposed joy…maybe it ain’t so bad afterall?

Orthodox, Calvinists, Baptists, Anglicans, and all others…is Maturbation a sin and if why or why not?

Ask this question: where does masturbation stem from? It stems from lust, and is seeking to gratify our selfish sexual desires. This is clearly a sin, both in deed and thought, as seen in scripture:

“…you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife…or his female servant…” [Exo 20:17; Deu 5:21]

“But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” [Matthew 5:28]

So yes, masturbation is a sin, not solely because of the mere act itself, but because of the lustful intentions stemming from it. People don’t just randomly start masturbating, they have a sexual desire and need to satisfy it. Of course, almost everyone suffers from such desires (myself included), but as Christians we are to constantly combat it.

Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. [Colossians 3:5]

Not only is a sin, but as I understand it, it degrades and restructures the reward centers of your brain - especially if combined with porn.

Not to presume, but I would think it for reasons of discussion. It’s a touchy subject (pun intended) so the issue sometimes get’s ignored even though it probably is of significance in the lives of many people.

Then the possibility exists that the act in and of itself may be combined with other sin and the restructuring of your reward center is counter to Metanoia, repent or do not be conformed to the world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.

Masturbation is a sin because it is intertwined with lust. During the act of masturbation, you are committing fornication in your heart, which Christ makes clear in Scripture is no different than committing the physical act of fornication. Both the physical act of fornication and the mental act of fornication is sin.

Another good point. Lust and fornication of the heart. I used to have difficulty when the notion of “heart” was used and lately I realized that this stems from OT thinking of how we are affected by things…we speak of the mind, whatever that is…but to feel something in your bones, or to know you desecrate your loins and to know in your heart…Wow…to the depths of your very being…Fornication of the Heart…pretty deep stuff…another good point.

The 12 step/Religion/AA and all the other 12 step programs have no better than a 5% success rate for addiction and there are modalities that work better. There is no published data that shows better than this.
