The sign reads:
“There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.”
What worries me about Atheism is that once you die it does not matter how you lived. You have no recollection. What is the point of living if once it ends, that’s it.
I enjoy my life way more than I did as a carefree non-believer.
Follow God’s rules sets one free!!!

So the ability to consolidate funds means you’re a religion. So I guess the NFL is a religion, or the DNC or your local school district.

This is true.
I feel like Christians sometimes try to insult Atheists by telling them they adhere to a religious system.
Technically, in this definition of “religion”:
“A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion”
They adhere to a religion…technically.
Everyone knows I love semantics.
Though, a religion traditionally assumes a belief in God or some form of spirituality involved. Atheists do not believe in either.

What I don’t understand is why a group of people would claim they are not adhering to a religion, yet consolidate like this.
My atheist neighbors, friends, and colleagues are indeed non-religious. They are members of no “atheist” groups, they don’t band together to advance an “atheist” agenda, they simply don’t care.
The atheists who religiously buy Dawkin’s, Dennett’s, and Hitchen’s books as soon as they are published, squawk atheistic clichés, and consolidate their funds as to advertise (proselytize?) for atheism are indeed religious atheists.

I’m not intending to insult anyone, let alone by tacking on a label.
My point is that it’s awfully strange that certain (not all) atheists act in such a fashion with respect to their atheism as do the most fundamentalist of Christians, yet these types of people tend to be the most vocal in claiming that atheism is in no way, shape, or form a religion.
Just odd I tell you.

This is what perplexes me. I guess their one motivator for pushing their Atheistic beliefs is they hold it to be true and they want people to believe in the truth.
What confuses me further is why are they wasting their time and money? If they truly believe this life is all they have and they should “Enjoy their lives” as the sign says, then why are they wasting valuable time trying to refute people who are religious.
They should use that money spent on something fun instead, right?
They just seem to contradict themselves sometimes. Of course Atheist beliefs vary from each Atheist to the other.
If they want to get rid of religion, then should we get rid of the seven day week, the calendar, the year we use? How about weekends. These are all things we have because of religion. I say, if they want to get rid of God and religion they should not be allowed to pick and choose!

I can tell you why. Imagine you lived in a nation where in order to get elected a politician had to profess a belief in santa claus…how would you respond? Replace santa with god and you’ll understand what motivates them.

I believe in Santa Claus–though it would be more accurate to say that I believed in the historical St. Nicholas, the wonderworking Bishop of Myra who participated in the first Ecumenical Council.

Not analogous.
non-religious atheists (and even THEISTS who desire a secular government) join groups like “Americans United” and they keep the existence or nonexistence of God out of it and they care little if individual people believe or not.
The religious atheists are the ones who make a religion of their atheism. These are the Dawkins, Hitchens, and supporters et. al types.

How do you know their efforts are such? Mind you I’m isolating my discussion to those atheists who proselytize for the sole cause of atheism.
I saw no mention of government, constitution, civil rights, etc on that billboard, just an attempt to persuade people to abandon their faith.
That’s proselytism no matter what color you paint it.

Not if it’s done to annoy Christians 
People in the States are said, rightly or wrongly, not to understand British humour; & this was not a “recruiting drive” for atheism (though if it had that effect, I don’t suppose the National Secular Society would complain). The UK is very very very secular (though France may run it close).
Atheists may seem fervent, therefore religious - perhaps a better comparison is between two kinds of fervour; one religious, one not.- Status
