I love Teresa of Avila, and do respect her visions, but hasn’t the church said, that the vast majority of visions, apparitions, and revelations are for the person alone, or the time in which (s)he lived,or for the general location?
That is why the middle view constant de non, was created? When such a ruling is made, no one can say that it is false, but not worthy of belief, at the time the bishop, pope, or the CDF hear of it. It doesn’t say that the vision did not happen, but simply, it cannot be proven.
I believe the person who had the vision may still believe it, but may not spread the word to those others, to whom it is already relevant.
And, during the inquisition, a time when ones life might depend on proving the reality of the vision, it would not be prudent to make any such claims?
Theresa must have been extremely certain, and very brave, to even allow these events to even be published? Her sanctity and honesty were a sign of true holiness!
