Ok…

They are sort of sitting there, those palm leaf things. Sacramentals.

The priest said we could take them home and use them. Make crosses and hang them up. Don’t throw them away. Bring them back on Ash Wednesday.

Now what? What do you do with them? Ideas? Where do you hang them? Do you put a nail through them when you hang them up or is that somehow disrespectful? How else do you hang them up?

Why do I have these things sitting here?

I make mine into a little cross and it hangs by a shelf where I have statues of Mary, Joseph and Jesus.

:heart:Blyss

I take one for each room in the house and put it behind a picture, on a shelf, etc. I feel that it blesses each room. I “freshen up” the blessings with occasional douses of holy water from time to time, too. And of course, rosaries in all of the bedrooms.

I put them behind the crucifixes in our house. I don’t use a nail or anything. I just set them at an angle so they are diagonal, and the cross keeps them from falling.

We got an entire palm frond at church this year.

I REALLY don’t know what to do with this big leaf.

My youngest daughter just asked me “Mommy, do we go to church to get our palm trees?” 😃
“Yes, honey, we get palm trees tomorrow.”

I cannot see why anyone would put a nail in them. I hang them behind crucifixes and paintings of our Lord and His Mother…

At times in the past I would burn them on Ash Wednesday and place the ashes in a flower pot. If I couldn’t get to Mass on Ash Wednesday I would take those ashes and make a cross on my forehead.

By the way the ashes you get on Ash Wednesday are the ashes of the palms distributed last Palm Sunday. (Used to be that way - nowadays I believe they order the ashes from a company that sells it)

My parish still collects the palms a couple weeks before Ash Wednesday to make the ashes.

I either place them on my home altar in a prominant place or place them behind my cruxifix.

I leave them at church.

I used to put them behind pictures or crucifixes but a move sort of ruined them and I didn’t know what to do with them. Finally, I gave them to someone who was able to dispose of them properly.

I haven’t saved them since.

Here’s a picture (sorry its not so good but I took it with my cell phone)…

A lot of our parishoners have sago palms in their yards.

Kinda hard to fold these so they end up behind crucifixes in our house and have been so since I was a kid.

My parish does that too. A few weeks before Ash Wednesday they will ask people to bring them in.

I just learned how to fold crosses like this but mine don’t come out this nice yet.

That was actually my 1st time doing it. I guess I’m crafty!😛

I wish I had gotten more than one like some people, I’d like to put one in some of the other rooms in my home.

Some wrap around crucifixes nicely as well if you’re not a folding person.

Just center it behind the crucifix horizontally then fold both sides over the cross and through the arms of Christ and it should stay put for a while then 👍
