They do it their way

Good for him - that’s what many teachers fail to do today and that is to provoke people to think.

I am curious as to why the American Bishops always have to change, add or modify the way we do things here in the U.S.

Take the new GIRM and the U.S. Adaptions. You can see all of them at this site and the adaptions are highlighted in bold.

Do they do this “just because they can” or is there a good reason for doing it their way.

I don’t suppose we are the only country who does this but I am more aware of it here because I live here. I do know Canada uses the Apostles Creed instead of the Nicene Creed in some dioceses.

I think people really want to be obedient but I think they would like to know the “why” of these differences from country to country and diocese to diocese. The only answer I ever get is “Bishop’s choice”. Is that enough?
Well, I beleive it is because many just want o seperate the Catholic Church in the United States further and further away from ROME. Hence, that’s why many of them use the term, “the AMERICAN Church”, as if the the Catholic Church had branches across the world. Their is ONE Universal Roman Catholic Chuch, and of course our Eastern Right Brothers and sisters who too are catholic.
It almost seems as if the catholic Church in the USA seeks toi cut itself off from the Pope, and the Holy See??? Just my opinion. Not meant to offend ANYONE.

You wouldn’t want our church to be like McDonalds would you? You know, a place where everything looks, smells, and tastes exactly the same. Where’s the variety? We can still follow the GIRM, and have defferences. Thats why you like attending mass at one parish and I like attending mass at another.
NO, that is why the Church is ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC, AND APOSTOLIC. To have entertainment masses, does seem to make it seem at times(in certain masses, and parishes) as YOU say: like “McDonald’s.” ONE MASS!! The Four Marks of the Church(again) ONE Holy, Catholic and Apostolic.

Because we are the U.S. of A. - the world’s only superpower. We should be able to do things just the way we want. Church teachings? Not for us. We’ll decide what things we are willing to believe and what things are too inconvenient. Rome should be happy that we accept the guidance of the GIRM at all! :dancing:

And yes, I am being sarcastic, but sadly, I am probably not being terribly inaccurate. 😦
BINGO!!! Here is the BEST answer.

Here is an example that will hopefully explain one situation. Some bishops have moved certain Holy Days of Obligation to Sunday. Several were also made optional. Why do this? Due to the priest shortage, many can not attend these masses without driving many miles. Many employers will not let their employees off of work to attend mass. Most can get to mass on Sunday, but not all.( Some parishes only get a mass twice a month.) In order not to place a burden of guilt on those who can not attend, an Indult was requested.

Pray for vocations.

Must be a lot of people work on New Years day too since I don’t see many at Mass
