Agree. But according to my Mom, I’m the one being manipulated by someone who is not on good terms with Ms. gloomy sibling. I’m not saying this someone is perfect and faultless, but several things she’s done were criticized, even though they were totally okay.

Lord Jesus, send us Your Holy Spirit so that each of us would be aware of whatever manipulation we are being subjected to, and never fall prey to it. Cover us with Your Most Precious Blood and never let us be harmed in any way. There needs to be change and conversion in our household. We cannot go on like this anymore. People who need to leave should leave. Lord, do not let some people bring down the entire household. Thwart their ill intentioned plans, and make them always fail.

If they are Christian/catholic, they should be aware that someone who is constantly engaging in calumny and detraction and shows hateful behaviour is not a moral person in general. Therefore they would have reason to doubt what is being said, or at least understand that lies would also be present. A follower of Christ does not engage in these things. Of course, your family may find themselves influenced by this person against their better judgement, but I would think that they could step back and realise objectively that the influence is wrong. People can be manipulative, and the first thing to do is to recognise the manipulation. But a close knowledge of Christ’s law should help when discerning. I think there is also the issue of clouded judgement which occurs due to personal sin (apparently).
