I am a Catholic and in the spirit of Pope John XXIII I think we should try to be nice about each other instead of fighting all the time

I greatly admire Billy Graham…He could have been a multi millionaire and instead put himself on a salary that an average pastor in his faith would make…He has never been involved in a scandal that I know of…Was faithful to his wife…and still traveled extensively for Christ…If protestants had a pope he would be a good one…He spoke very kindly about Pope John Paul and I never heard him resort to ugly attacks on other faiths

Who would like to join me in saying something nice about our separated brethren?

I appreciate irony.😉

Your thread reflects a GREAT Christian Spirit! Pax.🙂 There is too much fighting and name-calling on both sides, John Paul 2 Prayed we would work side by side to advance the Kingdom of God.👍

If it came out as insulting I didn’t intend it to…I was trying to do something nice…I guess it’s too much to expect people will try to respond in kind…😦

I have many protestant relatives and we all get along…One of my sisters in law converted to a non denominational church and her husband is still catholic and her mother was catholic…We never fought about it…We all did our own thing

Protestants are great scripture quoters…I know scripture but I am not any good at quoting it…

I think protestants in general are better at fellowship than we are. They really emphasize a welcoming community and you can feel it at their services. We should encourage that at our churches as well.

Protestants are often more serious about there faith and about growing there churches. There is a strong tendancy not to use prayer as an excuse for doing the leg work that evanglisim requires.

Also Protestants generally beat out Catholics over being spiritual.

Yes! Protestant churches always seem more welcoming. Of course, there is always exceptions on both sides.

Well…I am the only one in my family who is Catholic, and I love all of my family!

I sometimes wonder if there are more Protestants in Heaven than Catholics.

I watch Cornerstone Television once in a while, when not watching EWTN, and there are some very genuine pastors/people on there. I cannot say I agree with everything, but their zeal is great.

They are very filled with the Spirit! Now, if we could learn from them and receive that Spirit and they learn from us and receive Jesus truly present in the Eucharist, then we would make some mighty fine Christians!

I dont know anyone in real life with a faith so I have to base my comments on the heretical, Luther Lovin, Calvin clappin, Henry Hugging, seperated heathens Ive met here 😛 😛 😛 😛

Several people like Edwin and Hajnal, to name but two, have always responed to me in great kindness and with great erudition (edwin) and Ive always enjoyed reading their posts. Ive actually found nearly all the non catholics here to be wonderful posters and they demonstrate great passion and charity in their writing. It’s so obvious that most want to just be good people, following their faith. If the world was full of such people we’d be in a much much better place than we are right now.

Course there are at least TWO obvious exceptions - these guys would start a fight in an empty room  But then the others wouldnt look so good if these guys werent so bad 😛 😛 😛

Mass is not about us, it is about God!

If anyone is worried about how “they” feel at mass, they are there for the wrong reasons, thus why protestants don’t call it mass.

However yes, we could have better socials AFTER mass.

Yes I agree, protestants have great fellowship, but again, we can’t open our mass for social and fellowship time. 1 Hour a week to close everything off and focus on God, 1 Hour!

We have a social at our parish after mass and it is even announced.

Something nice about Protestants?

Um…they let us drink beer legally now.

They pretty much quit putting Jack Chick pamphlets on my windshield during Mass.

They bathe very regularly.

They vote Republican pretty reliably.

Um…

I’m thinking…give me a minute.

I am really sick of hearing this. Why must a great service and a service about God be mutually contridictory?

Why can’t one do both? Why is it not the standard to do both?

Guess what Pervo. A Protestant service is also about God first and formost!

Protestants just seem to want more out of there services and are less tolerant for dry than we are. With Catholics the Real Presence is rapidly becoming another excuse to be mediocre.

I love all of my non-Catholic brothers and sisters and I have admiration for their enthusiastic love of Jesus.

Unfortunately, outward displays of emotion do not necessarily equal deep reverence. I yell and scream at hockey and football games, but I don’t worship my teams.

I have attended many Baptist and Pentecostal as well as nondenominational services where there was high emotion, joyous singing, raucous shouting, speaking in tongues.

Often though, there was also a great deal of Scripturally incorrect, self-centered worship conducted at the expense of the the other members of the Body of Christ.

In contrast, when I attend the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, I am reserved and quietly respectful throughout.

I am totally focused on the miracle we share in and when I receive the Precious Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ I am moved to tears every time!

Do not mistake the fact that while many Catholics are reserved, respectful and often quiet, we love Jesus every bit as much as any of our more vocal brethren.

While the other services were often uplifting and informative, they were always filled with incorrect interpretations of Holy Scripture, many of which were directly in conflict with the teachings of Jesus’ One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.

They never had the Holy Eucharist and were therefore totally incomplete.

While we can all learn a great deal from our separated brothers and sisters, we must not forget that we can only learn the complete Truth, without error or omission, from Jesus through the only Church He established here on earth, the Catholic Church.

May God Bless You!

I didn’t realize my comment was controversial, but I guess it was. Perhaps I should clarify - I don’t think we Catholics are as good a dealing with “baby” Christians. Those of us who are cradle Catholics come with a certain perspective, but many who are cradle Catholics as well as people exploring the faith are not made to feel welcomed. We are the Body of Christ and have an obligation to every other person to act as Jesus did and go out of our way to welcome our brothers and sisters.

I so strongly believe that this is a spiritual journey and not everyone is in the same place on that journey. Since we are somewhat rule minded, I don’t think we display the consideration and sensitivity that we should to people just starting out. They need more external support than we give them - they experience Christ through us because they aren’t yet at the point where they can feel the Eucharist. That is not their fault, just where they are on their journey. If they see Christ in all of us at mass, before mass, in the grocery store etc. etc. etc. then they will know Christ is with us and can be gently guided on their journey. However, if they feel unwelcome at our churches or by our members, they will never take their next baby step. If you push a baby down when it tries to walk, it will just crawl, but if you help them along, before you know it they are a miracle at walking and running. Our goal at every mass and everywhere we go is to exemplify that encouragement and friendliness so they know that they will always be supported on their journey. They may take one step forward and two steps back and then all of the sudden take 20 steps forward, but all of the time they need to be encouraged. Even when we fall flat on our faces in sin, we need to know we can be picked up, dusted off and helped to start over. We all know it is not easy and I think our Protestant brothers and sisters do display this behavior than we do (sweeping generalization I know).

AMEN!😃

I don’t admire Protestantism at all. I do, however, have a lot to say in praise of many Protestants, and have done so repeatedly on this forum. I particularly admire many Fundamentalists who, I truly believe, are actually believers and act that way.

I actually admire them because they seem to have so much faith DESPITE not having the Real Presence. I don’t know how they do it!! I couldn’t live or exist without the Eucharist. I thank God daily for giving us our daily bread.

To previous poster who inferred the Catholic Church is not involved in very involved with ministries and outreach, that is just nuts! The Catholic Church leads the way in ministering to the poor, the sick, the disadvantaged, the ailien. If you don’t see that you need to look harder.

The problem with the outreach is that it is focused on the marginalized. It doesn’t really address the needs of your brother & sister who might be sitting next to you in Church, Sunday after Sunday. They might need a friend, fellowship or companionship,

Where I do think there needs to be work is in unity & charity with each other. It blows me away because every day Catholics say a prayer for unity in the Holy Spirit during the Eucharistic prayer! So I often wonder why does our Church lack so much unity? I think Protestants work better with each other in accomplishing their communal goals.

I apologize if it came across as flippant or dismissive; it certainly wasn’t my intention.

Unfortunately, typed words on a screen have a difficult way of conveying emotion or inference properly.

Some of what is being said is completely unfair!!

I was raised Jehovahs witness,
and some Jehovahs witnesses congregations are just as unfriendly as any Catholic church.

Some Catholic churches have charities and activity groups that far surpass anything Jehovahs witnesses have.

There are some catholics that just go through the motions at mass.

There are some Jehovahs witnesses that just go through the motions at the kingdom hall.

Some catholic homolies are dry, and some Jehovahs witness public talks are so dry and boring you would not believe it!!

You canot compare the worst catholics to the best protestants.

I think that if your Catholic and in a bad parish, just leave and go somewhere that has lots of groups and activities.

Can I say something positive??
Ofcourse!!!

Anyone that loves Christ regardless of denomination will have MANY wounderfull qualities,
and will be refreshing to be around.
