When i was a kid i was new to the neighborhood and me and my friends threw snowballs at a neighbors car in the winter time and they yelled at us. My family didnt talk to them at the time and still dont not becuase of this issue but is it a sin for me not to apolgize to them for doing this? i was not a christian at the time when i did this.

How long ago was this? I did things as a kid that were just stupid and mean to other people - including adults. Some of them I don’t ever want to face ( and probably never will ).

Most people realize kids do stupid things. Throwing snowballs isn’t the worst thing… but I can understand how you feel bad.

You COULD apologize… what are the circumstances now? How long ago was it, do they still live near you?

You could even just write a note… but this isn’t something I think you HAVE to do. It might help your conscience though. But you are truly forgiven since being baptised or going to confession. It sounds like a venial sin anyways so if you have asked for God’s forgiveness, it has been granted. I know you know that already.

Yes they live near me but it was like 5 years ago so thats a little far back.

It’s never too late to apologize for anything. The worst that could happen is that the neighbors will say they already forgave you. The best that could happen is that they forgive you now. You will have made a good reparation with reconciliation. That can only help you and all of us! 👍 After all, when charity is wounded, the whole Body of Christ suffers.

Well is it a sin not to? also this may not have been 5 years its more like 3 or 4

Circumstances are about the same as they were before dont talk i dont even know if they still live there to be honest.

Find out if it’s still them, if they still live there. If so, go apologize. Nothing but good can come of it. Including graces for you.

becuase it was about 4 years ago and i dont really want to face them about somthing that i did bad in my past.

I would say it is a good way to be an witness for Jesus. However, you cannot do this on your own as you have already been struggling with. I sugguest that you pray about this and ask the Holy Spirit to give you the courage and humility to do and that you do this for the love of God, not for your own.

As Thomas said “Nothing but good can come of it. Including graces for you.”

Is it nessasary to do this? i mean would i be living in sin if i didnt?

Cup of Milk…
It seems your biggest question is whether or not your action was a sin and whether or not you are obligated to make it right. The two are essentially interconnected. If the action was in fact a sin then we as followers of Christ are in fact obligated to “build the Kingdom of God” and make right the wrongs we have done. Now before you go running out your door to find your neighbors and beg forgiveness on bended knee… a couple of considerations:
Your reconciliation is with God first… it is our relationship to Him we harm by our sin first. So pray for guidance in how to follow Him more closely. You said you have become a Christian since then so you have made those first steps to turn from your sin. The sacrament of Baptism cleanses us of all sin. The guilt is removed and we accept this by faith. However there is still a great deal we can do to repair the damage of our sinful actions. Only you can discern whether the circumstances you speak of warrant a face to face apology or a spiritual act of penance.

What are you afraid of? It looks like you knew you had done something that was not right. If you don’t remember everything but truly sorry, then go and apologize. If you feel being forced to apologize, you might not be really sorry.

I suggest that you should talk to your confessor. However, if I were you, I consider myself that I must do this if I have a chance to see the person. You will be amazed how this could change your life down the road.

If you decide to do so, then just say what you wrote above.

I am not sure how this would change my life but why would you think you must do so? just asking.

I think one would do if he were you because of couple of reasons. There are many reasons, but I am not given the wisdoms to know.
  • to increase the desire to sorry for what he has done. For this desire, he knows he would need God’s grace to help him to apologize to someone. He cannot do this out of his own strength. This alone can help him increase his prayerful life and his total rely on God.
  • to be opened to God and admit his wrong doing. By doing so, God will definitely give him more graces to increase his self-knowledge.
  • Self-knowledge is the very crucial step to holiness. But holiness is still far from his reach.
  • The more he knows about himself, the more sins he knows he had committed. The more sins he knows, the more sorrowful he is to God. In return, God keeps on pouring down graces on him so that he may hate sins and love God more.
  • to be self-deny. Your spirit wants to do this, but “your flesh is weak”. Jesus knew and said this to his disciples. You can pray to Him and ask Him to overcome the fear of apologizing to someone.
  • to love God and follow His teaching.
  • to be a witness for Jesus.

If you hurt someone in your family, would you just want to ask God for forgiveness?
If it was 5 years later. Also if i didnt say sorry for this do you think i would be living in sin?
