Things that God cannot do

What are the other things that God, aside from telling a lie, cannot do because such would contradict his nature? Could you please provide some scripture for it? Thanks.

He couldn’t do something silly like make a rock so massive that He Himself could not lift it.

Square Circles? Perhaps Not. At least not as far we ourselves understand it in this limited three-dimensional universe. But whose to say shapes, colors, sounds, and matter itself is bound finite only by the laws of how humans perceive things. God is Infinite. Who can say with absoluteness that there is only one universe? To me that’s what makes God so beautiful. We are all like little infants who gaze at the imaginative wonder of small things and those things in Gods creation unknown that will forever jumble our minds in shear amazement.

Which burden was so heavy that the Father couldn’t even bare to look upon him…

So the rock lifted himself…

So God can do silly things…

God can do anything He wants, but he choses not to do certain things, He chould force a person do do His will, but he choses to give us free will. God does not follow the same patters or time as man, he spoke everything into being by His wisdom and all that is created. God is Higher, wider, longer, and deeper in His wisdom then we can even fathom!!!

With respect, I would encourage you to reflect upon Psalm 22, which Christ was quoting from the Cross. Specifically verse 24.

“For He has not despised or abhorred the affliction of the afflicted;
and He has not hidden His face from him, but has heard, when he cried to Him.”
(emphasis added)

Quoting the first line of a psalm was an accepted way in Christ’s era to refer the listeners to the entire psalm. Those few left at the foot of the cross would have caught this reference.

Christ took our place, not by serving as a punching bag for the Father to beat up on, but by becoming obedient where we could not. He bore our sins in the sense of Matthew 8:17, taking them away by banishing them. A true vicarious atonement out of love, not wrath. I refer you to 1 Peter 2:19-24 for a brilliant illustration of this concept.

Thanks cylea, I have considered all of Psalm 22 and believe that here is a time difference between when he was desolate and when he was reconciled.

There are too many other images which refer to the separation of the father and the son. The whole giving of His son is just a charade if there was not a separation between them.

The split rocks, torn veil, parted water, etc all refer to the cross, and we even break the break, yet Jesus body was not torn nor broken. It must refer to the separation between Father and Son. The real horror of the cross is not the physical agony, but that God was torn.

To fulfill the law of the leper,
Shaved head - Christ’s loss of authority
Covered lip - prayer not answered “remove this cup”
Leprosy - made to be sin
When covered from head to foot with leprosy he is pronounced clean, Christ conquers sin.
And goes through a ceremony like the priests because Christ was made to be our High Priest.

I believe that Christ faced the cross alone. In sensus plenior the book of Jonah tells us that the Holy Ghost was split from Christ at the cross and was grieved. That later he took comfort from the Son, which is why he is another comforter. Christ is the first comforter.

You are correct in believing that a doctrine must sum up and include everything the Bible has to say about it.

I’ve heard that a possibility is morality. Assume that God came to all people in a vision and told each person to kill and devour a baby. Would you do it? You initially think no, such an act is immoral and God would not command such a thing. However, God controls morality so really He could flip morality on it’s head if he liked. Or, it might be that morality is outside the scope of God. Which is correct? I bet you’ll never look at that crazy God preaching bum on the street the same way again.

Mal 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

If someone has dreams that contradict the Bible, they can be sure they didn’t come from God.

Not taking the time to understand God’s purposes is not an excuse to make him into a capricious God or monster.

We are now in an age when the axe has been removed from the stream. Judgment has been removed from the Word. And those who trust Christ do not fear death, and we are to love our enemies.

True faith then would have us die rather than take the life of our enemy, since we are ready to be with the Lord and they are not.

God didn’t change. His Justice has been met and his wrath appeased at the Cross by His own Son. This was His plan from the beginning. For Him to turn back on such grace, he would have to forget the cross.
