Think of a world without any flowers

I kept a few mint plants by my window for a year and occasionally ate a leaf after dinner. They needed a special lamp though to get sufficient light because they weren’t getting enough.

The national flower of Wales on this St David’s Day .

I’ve grown it this year and have dried and made tea 🙂 And used the fresh leaves for tea…much nicer than an after dinner mint.

The Lent Lily - Poem by Alfred Edward Housman

'Tis spring; come out to ramble
The hilly brakes around,
For under thorn and bramble
About the hollow ground
The primroses are found.

And there’s the windflower chilly
With all the winds at play,
And there’s the Lenten lily
That has not long to stay
And dies on Easter day.

And since till girls go maying
You find the primrose still,
And find the windflower playing
With every wind at will,
But not the daffodil,

Bring baskets now, and sally
Upon the spring’s array,
And bear from hill and valley
The daffodil away
That dies on Easter day.

Our beautiful Lent Lily , the daffodil , is here again .

We live at a higher elevation, so our Daffodils are much later. By the time mine bloom, the ones in town have run their course.

My next door neighbour was planting some primroses on Sunday .

Very nice ! Today I helped friends tidy up an Autumn garden, cutting back geraniums, lavender, agapanthas, fucias,
nasturtium and African daisy .
I took home some English ivy to plant 🙂

Still in the midst of winter here.

Daffodils don’t come out until late April.

I noticed some pansies for sale yesterday in the supermarket .

Such beauty and colour !

Did you see any sweet peas for sale?

I love their color and scent. Such delicate old fashioned flowers.

Yes I love sweet peas as well .

They are not the type of plant the supermarket I use sells . They sell the smaller kind of plant already in flower .

Where I used to live , our neighbour had a trellis for her sweet peas between her back garden and ours . It was beautiful when they flowered .

Spring has definitely arrived in this place.

In my place it’s still very icy and cold.

Spring doesn’t arrive here until late April.

I love ornamental Sweet Peas. My mother used to grow them in the same bed with Snapdragons and Stocks. Combined, the flowers were spectacular. I’ve tried that in my own garden, but can’t get Stocks to grow. The kind our local garden center sells are wimpy little spindly things, anyway. Not the tall Stocks that put on thick flower spikes. Can’t find those anywhere.
