I have several bushes growing nearby.

During spring, I open my windows to air out my house and I can smell the lilacs blooming nearby.

A local park has posted pictures of these flowers for most of us who can’t get there because of the pandemic .

They are checkered daffodils or snakes head fritillaries .

She is known as the Protectress of the Roman People and Pope Francis regularly brings her flowers

It’s sad but many plants in garden centres here are having to be binned because they have to close or people are unable to get to them .

My mother used to rescue plants that were thrown away by the local garden center because they were not healthy enough or just sickly and couldn’t be sold.

She always manages to nurse them back to health in her garden.

She gets free plants that way.

One of my favorite early season flowering shrubs is daphne mezereum. Smells like an orchid.(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Another is the aptly-named viburnum fragrans. This one can get blasted by a late freeze, but it’s worth having.

Our purple geraniums are starting to bloom now. My dad planted these, and he died over 15 years ago.
Thank God for perennials, which can bring us joy again and again, reminding us of better times!
